I know that just highlighting Scam sites like this might be considered questionable because after all: if you dont hear about it you cant get scammed by them. And while I think most Hivians are too smart to fall for this trap, I think this post is great for external users, who get contacted by the scammers like I did. Searching for "huebtc" gives you almost 0 results. No Trustpilot, no nothing.
It was via discord
The good old " You won a prize"-tactic already had me on full alert, but I love trying to scam the scammers - it never works, but I was bored. So I went to the site registered with my mail and entered the promocode. I won 0.36 BTC, I am fucking rich, baby!
Before I can withdraw all that good money I need to deposit 0.01 BTC. It is because of some regulation of the EU, no worries. I would like to ask the hive community, POB-community and Leo-Community to all come together and support me by loaning me 0.01 BTC. I will pay back double I swear..... xD OK enough with the jokes.
Apart from it being the old 'deposit money to claim your prize'-routine, there are plenty of other signs that make me think the site is fraudulent. I am using words like 'think' and 'convinced of' because there is this minimal chance (of maybe 0.03%) that this is legit and they just by accident use all the methods a scam site would.
an exchange where I can only trade three cryptos is no exchange, they usually trade hundreds of coins
they say you trade in USD, but there is no option to deposit, withdraw or even store USD
things like 'Strong relations with banks', 'Encrypted data' are really no information at all
The list goes on, but I hope I have convinced you by now that if you are in the same situation of having gotten the promo code, you will NOT invest >500$ to find out that this is a scam
