Hoy me siento super motivada porque las estrellas se han alineado misericordiosamente en el firmamento para mi, cuz no ha habido cortes arbitrarios locos del servicio eléctrico, así que he podido editar y jugar mucho en la PC (me siento como un gatito gordo mimado y contento) prrr ~ prrr ~ ✨

Continuando con la historia de restauración de mi Cosplay del Tengu Kojiro de la serie Yami No Matsuei (CLICK AQUI PARA LA PRIMERA PARTE), déjenme contarles acerca de una de las tantas sorpresas que te puedes encontrar como Cosplayer en época pre-evento ~

Continuing with the restoration story of my Cosplay of Tengu Kojiro from the Yami No Matsuei series (CLICK HERE FOR PART ONE), let me tell you about one of the many surprises that you can find as a Cosplayer in pre-event time ~

Una parte importante del Cosplay, es saber guardar adecuadamente todas las piezas de tus trajes por separado, sin embargo hay cosas que no importa que tan bien cuides, tienen un tiempo de vida que cuando llega a su fin el material simplemente se deshace en tus manos.

Y eso fue justo lo que paso con mis sandalias de Tengu, cuando las saque de su cajita todo el material se estaba desconchando, y la suela se despegaba con facilidad de todo el resto del calzado.

Así que la primera etapa de este tutorial es para explicar dos posibles opciones:

Puedes desarmar totalmente las sandalias, y aplicarles un cepillo de cerdas fuertes para arrancarle todo el material vencido o en mal estado, y así, trabajar las nuevas sandalias en base a lo que pudiste salvar.
Buscar un par de zapatillas de tu talla (preferiblemente usadas) y quitarles la suela interior y la suela exterior, y trabajar en base a eso desde cero.

An important part of Cosplay, is to know how to properly store all the pieces of your costumes separately, however there are things that no matter how well you take care of them, they have a life time that when it comes to an end the material simply falls apart in your hands.

And that was just what happened with my Tengu sandals, when I took them out of their little box all the material was flaking off, and the sole was easily peeling away from the rest of the shoe.

So the first stage of this tutorial is to explain two possible options:

You can completely disassemble the sandals, and apply a strong bristle brush to them to tear off all the expired or bad material, and thus, work the new sandals based on what you were able to save.
Find a pair of sandals in your size (preferably used) and remove the inner and outer soles, and work on them from scratch.

¡Yo escogí la opción número 1!

📌 Después de elegir el primer método, me dedique a desarmar y limpiar muy bien las sandalias, tomó bastante tiempo remover toda la pega que ya había caducado, y también pelar el material original a mano hasta estar 100% segura de que estaban completamente limpias.

📌 Para esta restauración, escogí una tela color marrón semi rustica, que en realidad es para bordar en punto de hilo, pero al no tener tiempo de salir para a comprar tela sintética color piel pues fue mi mejor opción.

📌 Luego procedí a recortar la silueta de cada sandalia (la cara acolchada, la que va en contacto con tu pie) dejando un margen de 2 a 2.5 cm para tensar cuando comenzara a aplicar el pegamennto de contacto.

I chose option number 1!

📌 After choosing the first method, I dedicated myself to disassemble and clean very well the sandals, it took quite some time to remove all the glue that had already expired, and also to peel the original material by hand until being 100% sure that they were completely clean.

📌 For this restoration, I chose a semi rustic brown fabric, which is actually for thread stitch embroidery, but since I didn't have time to go out to buy leather colored synthetic fabric it was my best option.

📌 Then I proceeded to cut out the silhouette of each sandal (the padded side, the one that will be in contact with your foot) leaving a margin of 2 to 2.5 cm to tighten when I started to apply the contact glue.

_{✦ When we have lined both templates I recommend placing them on a solid and straight surface, and crush them with some weight, such as books, and let them rest until we feel that the glue is completely dry ✦}

📌 La técnica para forrar calzado consiste en aplicar UNA PEQUEÑA CANTIDAD bien distribuida de este pegamento con ayuda de paletitas de madera (o algún aplicador desechable) en toda la superficie de la plantilla, es importante que no sea mucha para que no manche o traspase la tela. A aplicamos suavemente presión con los dedos y dejamos secar por mínimo unos 30 min.

📌 Repetiremos la acción en la parte inversa de la plantilla, pero solo en su borde, aplicando pequeñas cantidades de pegamento (como se ve en la imagen) esperar 30 seg a 2 min, y luego estirar la tela (tensarla) hacia esa zona; si es necesario se puede cortar la tela en las partes curvas para obtener un borde mas limpio.

📌 The technique to cover shoes is to apply a small amount of this glue well distributed with the help of wooden pallets (or a disposable applicator) over the entire surface of the insole, it is important that it is not too much so that it does not stain or transfer the fabric. Gently apply pressure with your fingers and let it dry for at least 30 minutes.

📌 Repeat the action on the reverse side of the template, but only on its edge, applying small amounts of glue (as shown in the picture) wait 30 sec to 2 min, and then stretch the fabric (tighten it) towards that area; if necessary you can cut the fabric on the curved parts to obtain a cleaner edge.

_{✦ The joy and satisfaction I felt at this stage of the process was HUGE. They already looked brand new, my optimism was through the roof ✦}

📌 Arreglada la base del calzado (NIEGUENME QUE ESTAN HERMOSAS) corté muchas cintas largas del mismo material, de 3 cm de ancho, y las cosi a las cintas recicladas que quité al inicio de este proceso.

📌 Once the base of the shoe was fixed (DENY ME THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL) I cut many long ribbons of the same material, 3 cm wide, and sewed them to the recycled ribbons I removed at the beginning of this process.

_{✦ Hand sewing is still one of my favorite activities, so I assure you that it looks just as good as sewing with the sewing machine, at least for small details or consecutive seams ✦}

📌 En esta etapa, la luz eléctrica se fue por muchas horas, tuve que continuar cociendo las nuevas cintas para poder comenzar a marcar su posición en las sandalias. Me ayude con la linterna de mi teléfono.

_{✦ As you can see in the pictures, everything was 100% handmade, the important thing is to do it calmly and with double thread, and apply small amounts of glue ✦}

📌 Para la sección de los talones, solo tuve que replicar su forma en una hoja de papel para hacer un mini patrón, ese mini patrón lo replique en otro trozo de tela, y esas piezas de telas las doble y cocí a mano contra las secciones recicladas.

📌 For the heel section, I just had to replicate its shape on a sheet of paper to make a mini pattern, that mini pattern I replicated on another piece of fabric, and those pieces of fabric I folded and hand-fired against the recycled sections.

📌 Ahora la cosa se puso seria, llegó el momento de la verdad, si todo lo hicimos bien deberían cuadrar las piezas, y si no a llorar jajaja. Como ven en las fotos la primera parte para pegar es la que entra entre los dedos de los pies, sugiero poner especial atención a esta parte y dejar suficiente cinta pegada por el reverso de la plantilla.

📌 Para ayudar a las cintas a mantener su posición, los ganchos de madera para ropa son muy buena opción.

📌 Now things got serious, the moment of truth arrived, if we did everything right the pieces should fit, and if not we should cry hahaha. As you see in the pictures the first part to glue is the one that goes between the toes, I suggest to pay special attention to this part and leave enough tape glued on the back of the template.

To help the ribbons to keep their position, wooden clothespins are a very good option.

_{✦ Musical interlude to deeply thank one of my kind neighbors: In my house we don't use this kind of clothes hangers, so I had to run to her house to borrow hers in order to secure the shoes while they were drying in their final stage ✦}

📌 Cuando todas las cintas estuvieron bien pegadas y completamente seco el pegamento, apliqué pegamento (una cantidad generosa) en ambas caras internas de la plantilla interior y exterior, esperé 3 min, luego las uní, y las apreté con todos los ganchos que pude colocar en todo su alrededor.

📌 When all the ribbons were well glued and the glue was completely dry, I applied glue (a generous amount) to both inner sides of the inner and outer template, waited 3 min, then joined them together, and tightened them with as many hooks as I could fit all around them.

_{✦ These types of projects remind me that the limits are only in the mind. I am not a shoemaker, but with a little research and asking people on the street who work repairing shoes, I was able to get this super satisfactory result, which will resist many many hours of use ✦}

📌 Yo esperé tres días antes de retirar todos los ganchos, pero según las instrucciones para el uso de este tipo de pegamento, 2 días es suficiente.

📌 Este calzado debe reposar como se ve en las fotos, al menos una semana antes de su uso, para garantizar que no se despegará.

📌 I waited three days before removing all the hooks, but according to the instructions for the use of this type of glue, 2 days is enough.

📌 This footwear should rest as shown in the photos, at least one week before use, to ensure that it will not peel off.

• 🇺🇸 ~ Fine rustic brown fabric, shoe glue, wooden pallets, yellow or beige thread, scissors, pencil, eraser, paper, regular needle, sewing machine, and small decorations of your choice (purple tassels) and recycled shoe soles.

Una característica de mis Cosplay es que siempre busco agregarle detalles extra, cosas que no se encuentran en el diseño original pero son bonitos o elevan visualmente la belleza del conjunto. En estas sandalias lo veran en esas pequeñas preciosas borlas de color morado con dorado. Parece algo pequeñito pero cuando sumas mas de una docena detalles como estos regados por todo tu costume, oh boi, se nota la diferencia 🥰

A characteristic of my Cosplay is that I always look for extra details, things that are not in the original design but are nice or visually elevate the beauty of the outfit. In these sandals you will see it in those precious little purple and gold tassels. It seems like a tiny thing but when you add more than a dozen details like these sprinkled all over your costume, oh boi, it makes all the difference 🥰
