A partir de aquรญ mis siguientes publicaciones (6) serรกn el recuento (mitad diario, mitad tutoriales) de una serie de mejoras a uno de mis trajes favoritos de mi repertorio de Cosplays.
El motivo es que al salir de mi hiatus como Cosplayer el aรฑo pasado, empecรฉ a recibir invitaciones/contrataciones como "invitado especial" y "jurado" para concursos de Cosplay, asรญ que mientras elaboro trajes nuevos (que me toman varios meses de trabajo) decidรญ mejorar los que ya tengo.

From here on out my next posts (6) will be the recounting (half diary, half tutorials) of a series of improvements to one of my favorite costumes in my Cosplay repertoire.
The reason is that after coming out of my Cosplayer hiatus last year, I started receiving invitations/hiring as "special guest" and "judge" for Cosplay Contests, so while I'm working on new costumes (which takes me several months of work) I decided to improve the ones I already have.
โฆ That cover you see is the only official color illustration that exists of these characters. This pair of twins appear for first time on the cover of volume 9 of the Yami No Matsuei manga, and their first appearance in the story was in Chapter 32, from there I extracted all the references to materialize this project โฆ
Cuando saquรฉ el Cosplay de Kojiro para probรกrmelo y lo comparรฉ nuevamente con muchas pรกginas del manga, lo evidente salto a la vista y fue obvio que necesitaba urgentemente ponerme a trabajar: Habรญa mucho por mejorar, re ajustar, editar y agregar.
Tengan en cuenta que รฉste es un personaje que interpretรฉ por primera vez hace mรกs de 10 aรฑos, mis conocimientos de costura no eran los mejores y mi ojo no era tan detallista; este es el inicio del recorrido que hice para mejorarlo con lo que tenia a la mano y mis actuales conocimientos.
When I took Kojiro's Cosplay out to try it on and compared it again with many pages of the manga, the obvious jumped out and it was obvious that I urgently needed to get to work: There was a lot to improve, re-adjust, edit and add.
Keep in mind that this is a character that I played for the first time more than 10 years ago, my sewing skills were not the best and my eye was not so detailed; this is the beginning of the journey I made to improve it with what I had at hand and my current knowledge.

โฆ I realized that among the main pieces of the Cosplay, the most urgent thing to fix was the hakama, the wide pants you see in the pictures. It's supposed to be baggy at the bottom, but my 10 year old self used to tie a hidden elastic strip inside and that achieved the effect, it's also stained by sweat mixed with the unsealed paint from the first leg armor model I made. Those stains will never go away. At that time I learned the importance of sealing the paint of the accessories that were in contact with your skin or that could get your sweat, for the large number of hours that you can get to have this type of costumes on โฆ

For a general test of Kojiro's Cosplay I agreed to a group meeting in the purple fortress (aka, @Vanuzza apartment);
Para arreglar la hakama de Kojiro lo primero que hice fue buscar todas las referencias de patrones posibles, no solo de diseรฑo, sino especialmente ejemplos ilustrativos de cรณmo se viste una hakama, para asรญ poder adaptarla a mis nuevas medidas.
El mayor reto aquรญ es que Kojiro es hombre, y mis caderas son bastante grandes, lo que hace que se vean enormes si la cintura de la hakama concuerda con mi cintura.
To fix Kojiro's hakama, the first thing I did was to look for all possible pattern references, not only of design, but especially illustrative examples of how to wear a hakama, so I could adapt it to my new measurements.
The biggest challenge here is that Kojiro is male, and my hips are quite large, which makes them look huge if the hakama waist matches my waist.
โฆ The hakama is made of a beautiful high quality satin. For all the necessary adjustments, I used white fidanzatta satin that @Vanuzza gave me as a gift โฆ
Pero de la cintura me preocuparรญa mas adelante, lo mas urgente fue reducir el largo de la hakama y eliminar un poco de la tela manchada para incorporar una cinta gruesa extra de 6 c de ancho, para generar un canal (un pasa cintas que al fruncirlo quedarรญa por debajo de la rodilla).
But I would worry about the waist later, the most urgent thing was to reduce the length of the hakama and eliminate some of the stained fabric to incorporate an extra thick ribbon of 6 cm wide, to generate a duct (a ribbon pass that when gathered would be below the knee).
โฆ The width of the waistband is 8 cm, and of the tape 7 cm. This is a very heavy fabric but once you iron it at high temperature it takes very good shape โฆ
Para solucionar el problema de la cadera, retire toda la parte superior de la hakama y la re-hice, agregando una pretina con pasador bastante ancho en la espalda, como se ve en las imรกgenes de arriba. Luego hice una banda a juego con la misma tela, lo suficientemente largo para rodear dos veces mi cintura y formar un bonito lazo en el frente (justo como las referencias del manga).
To solve the hip problem, I removed the entire top of the hakama and re-made it, adding a fairly wide pinned waistband in the back, as seen in the pictures above. I then made a matching sash from the same fabric, long enough to go around my waist twice and form a nice bow in the front (just like the manga references).
Si tuviera que hacer esta pieza desde cero, le cambiarรญa pocas cosas, quizรก hacer los plisados mas exagerados, y agregar forro (yo se que las hakamas no llevan tela de forro pero me gusta el volumen que agregarรญa a estos pantalones).
If I were to make this piece from scratch, I would change a few things, maybe make the pleats more exaggerated, and add lining (I know hakamas don't have lining fabric but I like the volume it would add to these pants).
โฆ Fortunately for me the bulge of these pants around the knee is not large, so it was relatively easy to achieve / Captures extracted from the manga, from my personal archive โฆ
Se siente muy extraรฑo analizar desde cero el diseรฑo de este traje otra vez, ahora lo veo de forma muy diferente; ha pasado una dรฉcada, en aquel tiempo y con la primera versiรณn de este traje, pasaba los fines de semana en casa de una amiga, reunida en grupo para ver serie de anime, escuchar ost de nuestros personajes favoritos, y finalmente practicar coreografรญas para presentaciones de Cosplay.
Se siento que todo eso fue casi en otra vida, se siente muy lejos...
It feels very strange to analyze from scratch the design of this costume again, now I see it very differently; a decade has passed, at that time and with the first version of this costume, I spent weekends at a friend's house, gathered in a group to watch anime series, listen to ost of our favorite characters, and finally practice choreographies for Cosplay presentations.
I feel that all that was almost in another life, it feels very far away...
Yami no Matsuei es un anime con una animaciรณn hermosa y una gran banda sonora que no dejo a nadie indiferente en aquella รฉpoca, tristemente la historia esta inconclusa, y no creo que la autora lo termine; simplemente es una de esas obras que quedo sin conclusiรณn, cancelada por algรบn motivo que nunca conocemos.
Un dato extra sobre este proyecto es que mi traje tiene uno gemelo, por mucho tiempo una de mis mejores amigas y yo nos preparamos para un gran Concurso de Cosplay en la ciudad, pero por problemas personales ese dรญa no pudimos participar; una pena, porque nuestra performance era un baile con influencia de teatro kabuki, teatro de sombras y baile con abanicos.
Hubiera sido hermoso.
Yami no Matsuei is an anime with a beautiful animation and a great soundtrack that left no one indifferent at that time, sadly the story is unfinished, and I don't think the author will finish it; it is simply one of those works that remained without conclusion, canceled for some reason that we never know.
An extra fact about this project is that my costume has a twin, for a long time one of my best friends and I prepared for a big Cosplay Contest in the city, but due to personal problems that day we could not participate; a pity, because our performance was a dance with influence of kabuki theater, shadow theater and fan dance.
It would have been beautiful.

โฆ Don't worry about that weird color of the new additions, the whole hakama stayed the same shade of white after I put it in the washing machine hahaha, please keep in mind that these fabrics and the base hakama have been in storage for a long time โฆ
Esta es mi primera vez haciendo remake a uno de mis viejos Cosplay, y con absoluta sinceridad les digo que ha sido una experiencia poderosa y hasta curativa (incluso empoderante), porque ahora que soy adulta me siento mรกs en control (de mi tiempo, mi dinero, mis decisiones y mi auto percepciรณn, de todo).
Mi amor por esta expresiรณn artรญstica esta muy vivo, hoy me siento diferente, es como que ya no me siento tan frรกgil o expuesta cuando de trabajar en lo que me gusta se trata; incluso me siento capaz de prestar ayuda y proteger a otros, porque al final de cuentas, el mundo del Cosplay es igual que otros aspectos de la vida (tambiรฉn encontraras enemigos de a gratis, egos, envidias, y hasta bullying), pero ya no soy una niรฑa... y eso se siente tan genial.
Espero me acompaรฑen en este pequeรฑo viaje, que durara 6 dรญas exactamente a partir de hoy. Abrazos y cariรฑo para todos ๐
This is my first time remaking one of my old Cosplay, and with absolute sincerity I tell you that it has been a powerful and even healing (even empowering) experience, because now that I'm an adult I feel more in control (of my time, my money, my decisions and my self-perception, of everything).
My love for this artistic expression is very much alive, today I feel different, it's like I no longer feel so fragile or exposed when it comes to working on what I love; I even feel able to help and protect others, because at the end of the day, the world of Cosplay is just like other aspects of life (you will also find free enemies, egos, envy, and even bullying), but I'm not a child anymore... and that feels so great.
I hope you'll join me in this little journey, which will last 6 days exactly starting today. Hugs and love to all ๐
