If you ask me the housing crisis is giving a black eye to a beautiful country.
Vancouver is a beautiful city but with so many homeless it is becoming less safe and certainly an eyesore.
In my town its the same problem. Many homeless creating issues for businesses and making our parks much less attractive.
But there are other problems. Public washrooms used to be common but now many merchants are removing that because homeless are making a mess of their washrooms.
Public rest areas on the highway used to be safe place to stop and rest a while on long drives. Now they are becoming homeless camps.
But the true problems are even deeper. With so many working people homeless many are trying to live in hotels at outrageous prices. Hotels used to be $150/night now they are getting closer to $300+ per night. At those prices business conferences are too expensive to hold here and without those conferences we lose out on business.
Immigration and immigrants are crucial to our economy and national identity. Having hardworking educated people come to our country is great for the country. Yes, it sucks for Nigeria if your smartest and most hardworking come here...but it is good for us. Regardless...if there is nowhere for an immigrant to sleep at night we lose out on that as well.
Something really has to be done so I really want to have my say. For the sake of my city, country, and children also.
Again, Canada is a great place.....if you have a place to live.....
