Dealing with aging parents. My Actifit Report Card: September 20 2026
Part of today was nice because my offer son came home to visit. Enjoyed chatting with him and enjoyed visiting with his girlfriend also.
Walked the dog with him which is nice because someone to talk to on the walls makes it go faster.
Paid the bills
Prepared and booked a flight to visit my mom and move her into her new home.
Now this is the third time I've visited her in the past few months. I enjoy visiting my mom but it is expensive, requires a flight and 8 hours of driving.
Eats up the better part of two days.
Now this year my mom will be 80 and her request for her birthday was to have the family nearby. Problem is that her birthday is in the dead of winter in one of the coldest places on earth. Plus a four hour drive on frozen roads with strong possibility of snow or worse.
I intended to make plans until she said she was going to cancel because of poor health. Fair enough, that's why I didn't grumble too much about the expense of a number of trips.
I let her know I was going to visit and got the "when do you arrive for my birthday?" And I said "but you cancelled it" and she said "but I'm feeling better now". I didn't know what to say.
A 2800km trip in winter is not a small drive, is a major undertaking.
... And my wife doesn't think it's safe so she doesn't want me to go.
Ugh...
Not that there is anything to do with fitness here other than...
.... Maintain your health so you won't be a burden on your kids as you age :)
Which is why I keep trying to get my 10k steps daily
