Hello beautiful community, today I want to talk about controlling parents and how this situation becomes difficult when children are adults, and they want to lead their lives independently, deciding for themselves the path they want to follow.

In many cases these signs of independence during the adult life of a child is seen as dishonor, rebellion, or a sign of bad gratitude on their part, a situation that makes it even more difficult for these adult children to dare to decide which way they want to live.

Talking with several friends this week I have noticed that some people have the concept that they must have many children to take care of them, it is as if they were in charge of nurses or something like that and forgive me for saying it that way, but I feel that way, for example my mother always said that she had to have several female daughters to take care of her and maintain her, from my point of view these people see their children as companies, of course with time this concept has changed a lot and today it is not seen so much.

I have a friend who spent her whole life taking care of her parents and I know that this is not wrong, but she is now 50 years old and she is alone, never married, never worked, never had children 😔.

Another friend of 54 years old approximately, her mother never let her get married, she did not like any boyfriend, neither did she let her have children, because according to the family she had to be aware of the house, now she wants to have children, but she can not, she also wants a family, but unfortunately it is too late, these things make me reflect a lot about the burden, that as parents we put on our children mutilating their lives and their future and I consider that this kind of things are seen more than all in Latin countries.

Today I do not see my son that way, and I hope I never do, I have a more realistic vision with my son, without putting burdens on him, or trying to control his life, I know that one day he will get married and go to make his family, but I can not expect him to stay single and be there to serve me the rest of my life, that would be very selfish on my part, and I think that sometimes as parents we believe we own our children and their lives and that is a big mistake.

Do not think that I am hard-hearted, I am only realistic by the examples I see around me, and I know that our duty as children is to be aware of our parents, indeed as we know the Bible commands children to be aware of their aging parents, but I believe that everything has a balance and many things have been misinterpreted.

Many parents try to control the lives of their children like puppets and move them like chess pieces at will, this is something very selfish because although it is true that we have given life to our children, they do not belong to us.

Days ago my cousin who is an adult woman left the country, her 50 year old mother was devastated, because it was something sudden, and she never imagined that she was going to leave, but talking with my cousin I could notice that she felt free, she told me that it was the first time where she really felt that she was her and that she could decide for her life.

Her words moved me, as I know she comes from a narcissistic family, her mother was particularly living her life for her, she controlled her steps and my cousin had to do what she asked her to do, she had even chosen her job, and was influencing her personal life, so my cousin saw the possibility of leaving the country, as an escape from a controlled life.

We know that as parents we control certain things that our children do when they are small, like their clothes, school, friends, outings, but this is until a certain age, when they are adults and have their jobs, this becomes tedious for them and they go from being in a comfortable house to being in a prison, sometimes girls to escape from these controlled lives go with the first man who appears to them, but it is because of their desire to flee.

Finally we must know that children are borrowed and we can enjoy them when they are children, their occurrences, and everything that transmits that beautiful stage, but as adults they are owners of their lives and we must respect them, as well as their decisions to marry or have a family, we know that we want the best for them, but perhaps our expectations of the ideal partner will never arrive, because there are no perfect people. That is why we must let them live their lives.
