Cheating has always been a very serious issue in relationships. They said that once you cheated or got cheated on, trust automatically dies. And you won't be able to trust the other person or yourself the way you used to.
I'm somehow reminded of this quote. Well, it's true, but I also believe that life is about taking risks, accepting the consequences and moving on. Of course, it depends on the situation and the people involved in such circumstances.
Disclaimer: I'm single, but I want to give my two cents on this issue. lol
If my partner had an affair, I'd rather he tell me about it than I discover it from someone else. If he confessed about it and told me he wanted to work things out, my reply would somehow depend on the reason and our current situation.
If we're married with kids, I'd probably give him a chance for the sake of the family. However, I only give second chances. If he did it again, then I wouldn't hesitate to break our marriage off... but I'll need him to continuously support our kids. Actually, divorce is illegal in my country, and it takes forever to legally separate, so if this situation did happen, it would be so complicated.
If my partner and I aren't married and he confessed that he cheated on me and wanted to work things out, I'd ask him why he did so at first. If it was because of his uncontrollable libido, then I might forgive him once. However, when his reason is because he felt even a tiny bit towards the other person, then that's my cue to say goodbye forever.
To be honest, I consider myself as a demiromantic and perhaps a demisexual as well. I want to have an emotional connection before jumping into a relationship. So, when the person I had that connection with also had a similar connection with someone else, then I don't think it would work. It's just me, though and I can't speak for everyone else.
Let me share a story which happened to me in the past... It's not really cheating because we weren't in a relationship... but here goes nothing...
Several years back, when I was in my early 20s, I met someone who I had some sort of situationship with. We weren't in a committed relationship, but there was an emotional connection between us. We used to spend time together just talking or hanging around at home. We shared the same interests and hobbies and we got to the point where he has started to comfortably open up about his life and dreams.
We had that certain bond that everyone else around us thought we were actually together. Anyway, one day things suddenly turned sour. He refused to hang out and stopped talking with me. I was clueless until I heard from one of our common friends that he started dating someone. And I just thought to myself, "Ohh... he should have just told me about it." I mean... we weren't together, so it wouldn't really matter, right?
The thing is, we see each other every day because he was a student in the English Academy I was working in that time. Even though he wasn't my student, it was quite awkward to bump into him around the campus. His girlfriend was the jealous type, so I somehow understood why he suddenly stopped talking to me. We weren't in a relationship anyway, so I just went on with my life and work as usual minus the daily chats we had.
The atmosphere wasn't very good either, so I avoided bumping into him as much as I could.
The crazy part is, he texted my mom about the situation... and told her that whatever happens I will always be special for him. Later that week, he went inside my room and told me he isn't in a relationship anymore and wanted things between us to go back like usual. He told me everything and apologized.
We went back our usual ways and the stupid me eventually fell hard for him... but I didn't really tell him until after he graduated. We spent some more time together and also I sent him off at the airport.
It was just a situationship until the very end, but I have loved him for years... and stayed in love with the thoughts of it for many more years after that. haha
He finally got married last year, and I'm happy for him. I don't know why I wrote this, but it's the closest to a relationship I've had. I don't see myself in a relationship now, though. As I've mentioned, I need time to connect with someone before I could feel something... but
Nevermind!!! haha
Bottomline is...
DON'T CHEAT!!!!
If you want to cheat... DON'T BE IN A COMMITTED RELATIONSHIP!!!!
Get it?
