Today's run started on a bright sunny day but as unpredictable as we've known the weather to be, a a sudden slight drizzle midway escalated into heavy downpour towards the end. I'm not that big of a fan of running in the rain, mainly because I don't normally bring fresh clothes to change and wearing damp clothes and shoes could get quite chilly. Good thing my run had almost ended (save for the cooldown) and I was able to find shelter until the rain stopped.
So that was the unexpected highlight of today's run. Otherwise, the run itself had been quite encouraging. In my previous post, I mentioned I'll be doing a minor tweak to my interval program. So to make it official, starting today, I'll be doing 4 sets of 5-minute jogs, with 3 sets of 4-minute walks in between for the rest of the week.
I'm happy to say that the more demanding program did not affect my stamina at all. Or more precisely, I didn't feel overly tired from the run. I also may have recorded my best 5-minute jog time yet during these 2 weeks, although I am not sure how much influence the adrenaline to rush to shelter from the rain had on this result.
Below is a recap of my runs so far. From the table, today's run was actually the best by far in terms of pace (16:02 mins/mi). I'm not going to get all hung up with records though, as I feel it would just give me unnecessary pressure. My objective for now is consistency and ensure I complete my runs without being overly tired. I'm also keeping in mind that this fitness goal is for 2018 so I don't really want to rush and burn myself out prematurely.
