Palmers Island
For todays post I am going to share some images of Palmers Island here in New Bedford from various angles

A little bit about the Island
Located in the Acushnet River at the entrance to New Bedford Harbor, this 6-acre island is designated for walking and other passive recreational uses, such as bird watching.
I been out on the island once before, on a walk with my wife, this year when it warms up a little, as you have to cross the water to get on the island, its not to deep at low tide, sometimes its possible to get to the island with the water gone completely and just walk on the sand, but since tides change I am planning to walk out on it on a nice warm day wearing crocs so if the tide comes up I don't mind walking through the water, especially now that reading about the island I note it is popular for Bird watching, I may take my bigger lens and head out there and see what birds are there
With all the greens in view you can tell these shots were taken last year, and not recently where the greens are still yet to return

A little on the history of the island
Pre-dating the Pilgrims’ arrival in Plymouth by 18 years, English explorer Bartholomew Gosnold first surveyed the 6-acre island during his exploration of New Bedford Harbor in 1602. The island was later named after William Palmer, an original settler of Old Dartmouth. The island was used as an internment camp for Native Americans during King Phillip’s War (1675-1676) and as a garrison during the Revolutionary War. A hotel and amusement park were built during the 19th century. During the 1938 Hurricane all the structures on the island were washed away with the exception of the lighthouse.

Walking back I walked up on top of the Hurricane barrier wall, this part of the wall does not have a walkway built, but you can walk on the boulders and rocks
you may have noticed the Palmers island Lighthouse to the right of the island in a couple of these shots, that is the other thing I want to do when I go on the island next explore a bit more of it and see if I can get closer to the lighthouse
