This is Why Kids Need to Spend Time With Their Cousins

"I’d argue that cousins are an essential part of a happy life because they love you fiercely, remember you as a baby, and cheer you on as an adult. Having a cousin is like having a forever friend in your corner, no matter what life throws your way."
I am not blessed with multiple first or even second cousins. I only have 1 first cousin and we are not close...probably largely because our parents didn't make it a priority for us to be together.
I have 3 siblings.
Myself and my brother are the only 2 that have a child yet and already it is weighing on me that we live on opposite coasts and that our children may not grow up together, but for our once a year reuion. I've heard and witnessed the joys of having a close relationship with cousins and it saddens me that I never had that. Thankfully, my siblings are so wonderful that the void was never felt. However, I want my daughter to know her cousin and to love him and appreciate him. I can't wait for the days when us parents are distracted talking and we catch the older one teaching the younger one something new. Or we get to hear the precious giggles of 2 cousins being mischievous. It is something that I've never experienced so I want to make it a priority for my daughter and her future sibling. The love of family for better or worse is a love that never waivers...and that is everything.
