The champion of free speech.
Now, here is a test for Trump supporters.
Do you believe that the government should coerce journalists to give up their sources in the name of "National Security"?
It seems that while a lot of Trump supporters backed him as he promised to dismantle government powers, the opposite seems to be true to the point that the government is looking more and more like a dictatorship. Maybe not much has actually changed in the grand scheme of corrupt governments, but now it is just openly on display for all to see. Yet, people seem to still be able to turn a blind eye.
He was also going to cut debt.
It is increasing.
I am not qualified in any way to really comment on the government policies in any country, let alone the US. But qualifications don't actually matter that much in government, do they? But I still don't understand how even if half of all this nonsense is the way it is, how anyone other than the most elite who are benefiting financially from all of this, can support Trump. It just seems nonsensical.
Take all the politics out, take all the celebrity out and just strip Trump down to being a human, and he is just not a good person. What does that really say about his supporters? What does it say when a person is willing to support a terrible human, because that terrible human promises them misguided revenge of some kind?
Vindictive
/vɪnˈdɪktɪv/
adjective
having or showing a strong or unreasoning desire for revenge.
A good person is a vindictive person. No slight is too small not to avenge. It seems to be the way of the world these days. People will burn down the widest bridge, over the smallest pain. And for the insecure, everything is painful.
It wasn't that long ago that people in the US would ridicule the North Korean leaders who would force their people to comply to "believe" the unbelievable. Yet, it is just a difference of degrees now, and the US is catching up fast.
Remember when whistle-blowers were celebrated?
But of course, it depends what is being whistled, doesn't it? When people find out that what they support is a sham, rather than changing course, they double-down. No one wants to be wrong, and being right only takes not admitting fault of any kind.
It wasn't me.

I don't blame Trump for any of this. He is a symptom, not a cause. The cause is the world we have created over the space of decades, that has eroded the quest for truth and human improvement. The entire ecosystem of government, corporation, and population, has aligned to make the world a worse place across nearly every aspect of life. It has become more divided, more polarized, more untrustworthy, and more destructive.
It is no wonder people support Trump.
He is like all the negatives of society personified. Making him also familiar to the average person. And as we know, people will support what they know, even if it ultimately goes against their best interests.
What I find interesting about the potential attacks on the journalists to get sources, is that the media have made themselves untrustworthy anyway. They have taken sides and positioned content in ways that reduce their credibility. So now, like the boy who cried wolf, even if the information is correct, it won't be believed by the polarised audience.
In today's world, the truth can be easily discredited.
How sad is that.
We'd rather feel right, than be right.
And we will lie to ourselves and others to get that feeling.
It is unbelievable that with all the technology, all the information, all the data, all the cameras, all the tracking - we still can't trust the information we receive.
Sad.
