Tomorrow morning Smallsteps starts school, which leaves me with a couple days to "myself" - meaning all the things that I was meant to do, but have put off time and time again. I wasn't able to get a car service time for this week, so that will have to wait until next. I also updated a non-working bankcard, which was a minor inconvenience as there is a digital version of it anyway - but it has been on my list for months. The main thing I have to try and work out though in the next few days is, what kind of bricks can we get for the garden wall - and what we can afford to buy.
It is going to be a tight few months.
Post-holiday blues.
It is funny to see Smallsteps also not wanting holidays to end, though at the same time, she is also looking forward to getting back to school. She asked us as we were driving today what our favorite day of the week was. For my wife it was Friday because there was the whole weekend ahead. For me it was Saturday because there was no work and still another free day ahead. For Smallsteps, it was Wednesday, because she has a lot of handicraft at school.
Value free time, or value quality time.
These holidays I have tried to engineer more free time, to have more quality time. I have let a few things fall through the cracks, put them on hold, postponed by an hour, a day, a week. I am a procrastinator by nature, but I have tried to beat it out of me over the years to pretty good effect.
I wonder what it will be like to go back to work.
There is a funny thing for some jobs (not mine) in Finland where there is a "back to work" bonus for returning to work. Supposedly from the past it was because there were so many jobs available that employees were getting poached. However, it could also be because Finns like to drink, and it became such an issue that people just weren't going back to work. I am not sure which is the case, but I can see the second one being an issue for some people today.
But with a few days left and lots of chores on my list, I am still planning to get out of the house a bit, maybe head into a café in the city and finish a book I started, but have about 90% left to read. It has been a long time since I have read a book, and I am struggling with it, for as expected, my brain doesn't process it effectively.
It is a lot of work.
So, I guess I will be somewhat primed to get back to work come Monday again.
