It has been sunny the last few days around here and today it is the first day of our vacation period as a family - it is pouring down with rain.
Typical?
Yes.
But at least where we are heading, it is looking like this:
This will be our first ever family vacation abroad and I am really hoping that it is going to be an awesome, relaxing time, where everything falls into place and things go incredibly smoothly.
I am not expecting this to be the case.
Just hoping.
The weather will be what the weather will be and whatever comes up along the way, we will deal with it as we normally have done in the past. For me, I am looking forward to having some time off from work and spending some time doing a little more of what I want to do, taking and editing some photos, writing more casually, playing around with Smallsteps, seeing her face as she sees things that she has never seen before.
She loves surprises (no matter how small) and this is a big one.
Because of where we are, we aren't going to be doing that much or even walking a lot most of the time, as it is one of those "lazy" beach holidays I am not really a fan of. However, considering that this is our first trip, it is good to not have a schedule, though I am planning on getting away for a bit of sightseeing myself, even if it is just randomly walking strange streets.
It has been a while since I have had a chance to get out with the camera in foreign lands properly, and I think it would be nice to get some new pictures for the collection. Perhaps something that I could even put on the wall. Currently, our house looks a bit like a mental asylum, as there is nothing on the walls at all, and even though they aren't white, it is pretty empty. We need some color.
I am planning on painting something together as a family, perhaps in a couple of large panels, but there is the image in my head of how I think it will be and then there is the expected reality, that won't even come close. Still, perhaps it is better to have something on the wall than nothing and, it should be fun to do it as a family and all have a bit of a go at making a mess, and our mark on our world. When it comes to art, I far rather having something not quite right, but self-made, than something great, that has been bought.
When we travel, I will also take a laptop, so that I can write. Writing for me is something that should be explored under many conditions and there is no "right time" to do it, as there is no such thing as good or bad conditions, though the conditions do have an affect on the outcome. However, when writing reflective posts, the outcome is less important than the journey, as it doesn't have to be anywhere in particular.
When I write whilst travelling, my posts tend to have a different feel to them and this is the first time I'll be writing whilst traveling on holiday, so I am curious to see if there will be a holiday mood captured, or will there be no noticeable change. I tend to be seen as pretty serious in a lot of my posts, but I am not sure if that is a good representation of me person to person. I am generally more fun and a bit sarcastic, teasing people heavily (in fun, never in cruelty). I only really get into that mood through my writing sometimes though.
My plan is to find a nice shady spot, order a cold drink of something with a bit of gin in it, and see what comes out on the keyboard. Also, there will likely be (depending on the images I get) a post of photos, which are posts I like a lot and miss doing more often. Each time I do another, it reminds me I should do more, but I so often forget or like now, don't get enough time with the camera to capture anything worthwhile. I am not sure what "worthwhile" is, but I know it when I take them :)
Anyway, I started this post in the morning, went shopping between to pick up some stuff we need for the trip and many hours later, it is still pissing down with rain here. When we were driving, I could hardly see the road ahead and there were massive puddles all over, making the conditions not ideal for driving, but great for being in the house to play some games instead.
And that is what I will get up to now.
Which is not a bad way to spend the first day of vacation.
