I caught the bus to work today, and I didn't even have to.
Crazy.
Actually, I don't mind catching the bus, as it is nice to have a few minutes to think, without having to think about driving in traffic. Not that there is so much traffic in this city, though, still enough to crash into. It also gives a bit more time to enjoy the surroundings, and take a picture or two. The pictures in this post were taken at just before nine in the morning, and as you can see, it is still pretty dark, even though it has been getting lighter for almost a month already.
I am on the bus right now too, writing on the phone whilst concurrently in a global meeting. I just have to listen with half an ear in case there is anything actionable. However, as I am involved with the upcoming event this leads into, most of it is already familiar. It has been a mess of work.
I have bandwidth issues.
There is only do much time, energy and attention available in a day, and I am running out at times. I am going to stop in at the gym on the way home however, because I think it will help clear my head, as will writing. I don't have my gym stuff with me, so my wife is going to pack my gym bag and leave it at the counter, as she is going to a class there. Having the childcare service for a bit has been good for us, as even though the window isn't large, it generally covers the times we can go, and the lessons my wife wants to attend.
Smallsteps likes it too.
I had to listen to the meeting.
So now I am writing after the gym. Normally when I write, I sit down and write in a block, which means that lately, I haven't had time to answer comments as quick as I would like. Sometimes taking days. But, this morning, I used the 30 minutes on the bus to get to some of them, though I have a long way to go.
At least I am aware of it.
Some people seem oblivious to their shortcomings.
That would offer some bliss.
Smallsteps had a parent-teacher conversation today, with her present also. I don't get to go to these really, as they are in Finnish, and I would just get in the way. As far as school work goes though, she is doing great, in fact, almost "perfectly" in the sense that she hasn't really dropped many points in the tests she has had in any subject. However, she still needs to develop using her voice more, in the sense that she needs to speak up and stand up for herself.
Apparently, she is too kind at times.
I can live with that.
She will have to learn when to be firm.
But, she is probably the sweetest thing in the world.
Most of the time.
Which is why it is time to finish writing this post and put her into bed with a story. We are reading Matilda and she has just decided that when her parents are mean to her, she will get revenge. I asked Smallsteps if she is planning on doing the same, but she doesn't quite know what revenge means completely, so I have some time to figure out how to handle her.
Or just not be a mean parent.
But, I don't think it is possible, whatever the intention, because we all make mistakes, especially when we are running out of bandwidth, get tired, frustrated, and have a thousand things on our minds. And, children will always find something to blame their parents for - even if it is like one of Smallsteps biggest complaint about me,
Too many hugs.
