Hey Steemians! Another busy day at Tanglebranch Meadows today. To get lots done around here, we end up multitasking where we can, and making sauce or paste from some of our garden tomatoes fits really well into that kind of schedule! My husband is home on weekends, so he was good enough to dice up this lovely pot of Roma tomatoes this morning and set them to simmer away all day long as we got some other tasks done outside before the winter snows arrive.
I didn't end up getting pictures of the things we were up to because my phone was in dire need of charging and it got left indoors while we worked. Too much Steemit surfing I guess! But we mulched all our shrubs and fruit trees with wood chips, dug out a big patch of quackgrass that had infested one of my flowerbeds, retreived our rams from the ewe flock and packed them off to the bachelor pad, and did all our regular farm chores of feeding and watering the sheep.
Halfway through the afternoon, I started feeling sick with a chill, so I came inside to rest and warm up. I've been doing a lot of sweat-generating work in the frigid air lately so it was bound to happen. I'm feeling a little better now, hopefully tomorrow I can get back to work!
While I snoozed, my marvelous husband went out to a neighbor's field and collected enough small field stones to half-fill the 8-foot box of our truck! We are using them to build up the dirt floor in our recently built barn, to give it a bit more strength and stability, before we have to start letting our animals in there to sleep on the cold nights.
In the meantime, those tomatoes turned into this:
Yum! There is still more to do with this tomato sauce before it's done, but we are going to let them keep simmering on low heat overnight so they can reduce down to a richer paste with a deep, roasted flavour that we really like here. So you'll get to see the next steps in our process tomorrow!
So, now for a hot cup of tea, some knitting, and nice hot shower before I head to bed early. Hopefully I'm feeling a little healthier in the morning!
