Hey guys! I have just a short little entry today. Life on the homestead was pretty routine.
We are a little short on stored feed this year.
Since it was such a dry summer, the hay fields didn't grow very much. Luckily for us, my shearing teacher, who lives about thirty minutes away, had some surplus hay from last year that is still in great condition that he was happy to sell us.
So my husband and I went on a super romantic drive to pick up part of the available hay today!!
Haha. It was not actually much romance. But it was nice to drive somewhere and not need to defuse the arguments between children in the back seats.
My husband also shoveled a bunch of dirt in place around our barn, to close in under the walls where the ground wasn't level. Only a tiny bit left now, that I hope to do tomorrow, and all the walls will be draft-proof! The bottoms of the doorways still need filled in, but they will need thorough packing to keep them both level and draft proof. Our barn is nearly ready for sheep habitation!
Here's my daily sheep pic: the fattening lambs standing in the morning sun as I come back across the pasture to fetch their breakfast.
