Good evening everyone. How was your day? I have been carrying along with the four skills for a good communication and today we shall be looking at the fourth and last skills which is WRITING.
WHAT IS WRITING? This is a language skill that involves graphic representation of thought, logically presented to achieve communication motif. It involves the production and arrangement of sentences in a manner appropriate to the purpose of writer, person (s) addressed and the function of what is written.
The objectives of writing are;
- To identity the purpose and audience they are writing for.
- To state the functions of each type of writing exercises.
- To exercise power of imagination in telling stories,giving brief account,recounting experience.
- To make writing interesting and effective via activity based learning techniques.
- To identity the components of writing-introduction,development/body and conclusion.
Writing also has styles. Which are the Formal Writing and Informal Writing
FORMAL WRITING
This is any composition that convey findings,results,facts and objective opinion with similar format.
ATTRIBUTES OF FORMAL WRITING ARE;
• It is less personal and objective. The writer needs to focus on the topic,audience and purpose of write up without bias or personalize the discourse.
• It needs to steer clear of slang,colourful words and ambiguous expressions. Writer should not oppressed in writing but imploy simple,comprehendable language that is easily understood by reader.
• It must be devoid of contraction expressions. The writer needs to write in full all words without abbreviation.
• It requires a straight forward introduction, supporting argument and clear conclusion.
INFORMAL WRITING
This is a form of writing that is personal, friendly and less conventional in term of language correctness. Informal writing presents a form of message that has no specific style but conventional like:interview, diary note taking,appreciation etc
CHARACTERISTICS OF INFORMAL WRITING
1 It allows fragmentation on sentence sparingly
2 It is less rigid in structure, more natural in thought path or alternating between anecdotes and analysis.
3 It allows shifting in the voice for dramatic effect.
I think I am able to complete the four skills for good communication. I like keeping to my promises that is why I had to complete my lecture on this topic.
