The word "library" was derived from the Latin word liber meaning 'books' dated back to the earliest civilization notably ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia where knowledge was preserved on surface of scrolls,papyrus and clay tablets. These materials were collected organized and stored for use by rulers and a few privileged individuals. Libraries differ from one place to the other. Today's libraries are different from those of the past in kinds,contents,services and layout. It is therefore expected that future libraries will continue to vary as they will constantly strive to find ways to expand the light of the dynamism of technology to meet the need of its clientele and organizations.
Libraries connotes a body of recorded information brought together for a specific purpose,organized for the use and made available to users
It is also a place where information in print and other forms is collected and arranged to serve people of all ages and interest
Library is a collection of books arranged for the use and enshrined in a building which symbolizes the elevation of human mind,which associate with learning.
TYPES OF LIBRARY
NATIONAL LIBRARY
A national library is a type that is established by a country through national resources with the responsibilities of collection and documentation of all publications in the country. An example is the National Bibliography of Nigeria also known as apex library. This National library was established by National Library Act of 1964,which was later amended by decree 29 of 1970.
