Hello, Alien Art Hive! It's been a while since I first posted on this community and I'm glad people in the community liked it. --> Art #26: MIPPRA | Pyra Mage

Last week, Artpark had it's second challenge for the Draw Your Monster series wherein we have to draw a stuffed toy style monster. The first Draw Monster we did was to create our own Pokemon character. --> Art #35: Chubblebum | Creating Your Own Pokemon Character.

For this challenge, this is what I came up with:

Ruffa, The Monster Inside

To be honest, I had difficulty deciding what kind of monster to draw for this challenge and it took me days before I have chosen to draw Ruffa.

I drew a tree monster with a female head, with her mouth stitched while handing out one of her eyes. I also drew her wearing a tattered hat which I based from one of my childhood stuffed toys, Ruffa. My stuffed toy's hat isn't really tattered though, I just matched it to the theme of the drawing, and my stuffed toy Ruffa's hat was white with yellow print and not pink. Also, Ruffa's hair is originally yellow and not black. Sadly, I no longer have Ruffa with me and I don't have a photo of the toy. :/

Aside from being inspired from my childhood stuffed toy, my drawing is heavily inspired (or more like a representation) from what I feel inside. The unspoken words, traumas, and just the mental state in general.

I won't be elaborating the representation of each because this is a sensitive topic for me. How you interpret it is what it is.

Hmm..am I being too harsh or selfish? Lol. Okay, let me just share one representation in my drawing. Ruffa handing out an eyeball is to wish for people to see the world in her point of view. To know and understand her mind, her past, and the occurrences of why she is the way she is today.

That's all I could disclose to everyone. Thank you. :)

Drawing Process

The first image I have in mind was to draw Ruffa in a mermaid body though I can't find a good meaning for drawing it, and while I began sketching, my hands mindlessly drew Ruffa's body into the shape of a tree's trunk. The idea of expressing myself suddenly popped and I continued sketching.

Surprisingly, it took me longer to finish this piece even though I have told myself at the beginning to make less detail so I can finish it quick. I didn't blend the colors so much yet it took me long to complete it. Ugh!

I used the Watercolor Brush for most of the colors, however, I recently upgraded into a pen display and this brush doesn't work the same as with the drawing tablet. I wonder why.

Usually, I can put different colors in one layer but with the pen display, I can't seem to do it. It works for other brushes and pens except for the watercolor brush. My remedy was to put each color into separate layers. Seeing many layers is irritating (if that's the right word), I hope there's a solution to this.. or is this just how the brush behave with the Pro Pen 2?

Anyway, here's the timelapse video of drawing Ruffa. Enjoy!
