Yesterday morning a noise.
Sharp. Out of place.
Enough to stop me.
I looked.
Nothing.
At least nothing obvious.
Later at the composter I saw it.
The lid broken.
Not worn. Broken.
And today the answer arrived.
A cat.
A regular visitor.
Using the composter as a step to reach the wall.
Efficient.
Impressive, actually.
The height. The precision.
But also destructive.
So I acted.
Went out. Bought a new one.
Work followed.
Half-finished compost out.
New structure in place.
Everything back again.
Not complicated. But physical.
And strangely satisfying.
After that a reward.
My wife had prepared cake.
Coffee. A pause.
Then as usual the walk to the lake.
Order restored.
At least for now.
Until the next jump.
Observed while moving. Left unfinished.
