Black Forest in one direction. Vosges in the other.
Between them a quiet valley holding towns, roads, invisible borders.
The Rhine flows below. Not visible. Still decisive.
Part of a wine trail. Part of a larger system older than us.
We are camping in our van near the river. A free place to stop.
Nothing owned. Just ground shared for a night.
Walking along cultivated slopes, looking beyond cultivation.
Lines in the soil. Lines on maps.
From here they seem negotiable.
