And so it started one month ago! @streetstyle started the Steem Power Up Day movement where he calls out the steemians to either power up, or stop their power down for one day.
And... SPUD #1 results? It was the first time after few months that actually more STEEM was powered UP than DOWN, so let's see how #2 will go? Also there are lots of rewards for smaller accounts that decide to join the movement. There are some conditions that they need to meet.
Here is my part!
I powered up 1290 STEEM from my main account, this one - and want to note that the @crowdwitness is constantly powering up (never started the power down) - even tho we have very nice monthly expenses. So in total, I currently hold around 6500+1400 ~ 8k SP. Not a bad score for 1.5 years here as a trash author and curator.
However nice this movement is I still don't think most of the things will change, it is nice and good - but we all know that world (especially steem) is a much darker place.
Since I'm here and writing this, as a witness, I feel a responsibility towards the community and everyone that supports our work, so I'll write a few words about future changes. Of course, as someone already stated - I'm no one, and basically, have no influence on this platform, if I did you wouldn't be
I won't go into too much details - there are so many posts about it
Let me start with...
It sounds awesome in theory.
So lets check out some insecurities about that?!
Currently, we have an awesome group of curator groups:
Curie with many community curation groups, OCD, photocircle, steemSTEM, c-squared, as well as many others dsound/art and then the awesome individual curators like Acidyo, Mariusfebruary, theycallmedan, nathanmars, kommzenzsezizus(you know who I am talking about) and many others - even tho it is not the best way to earn at the moment they dedicate their time to support everyone. And I believe that they will put that 25% of free downvotes option for a good cause.
I am sure they understand that true value of SOCIAL MEDIA on the blockchain is SOCIAL aspect of community and not the blockchain itself (which is THE most awesome thing that we have) - but that is our edge over just another blockchain.
Vote selling will be even more rewarding, but also joining into curation trail might be a bit more tempting. However, if someone wants to most efficiently makes some profit he won't vote for someone who already has a significant vote, he will probably skip it searching for that perfect post - and what happens when there is no such thing.
We already know that big stakeholders vote for big stakeholders and there are almost no votes on the smaller profiles no matter the value of their content.
Conclusion: Presented and wrapped up a sweet spherical cow in vacuum, this is the best thing that could ever happen for authors, and the current system requires some changes for a direct fight with bid-bots and selfish votes - will this happen in practical use - I doubt it, but we can try it, there is some logic behind it that actually can help the system - not by much but ever little thing counts at this moment.
Next thing...
Yes, both ideas are awesome and we need them (S)ASAP.
Lots of people are working on implementing SPS, the only thing that is left is for people to come up with a plan of funding it. Steemit in no way SHOULD NOT fund it, they offered initial funds and that is awesome from the team, and the rest will be funded from inflation. Now there are discussions from where we should take this inflation?
Authors, Stake or Witnesses? => Currently the majority of witnesses are in favor of taking all from authors.
Again, I am repeating, I am nowhere near to influence this decision, nor the community thinks that my node/opinion matters much to the chain... This is outrageous, If you combine EIP+(-10 cut for reward pool) the author rewards are reduced for 42%. 42% - that must be the answer to life, Universe, and shit going on, Don't Panic!
Next, no one wants to address the inequality of block producers rewards between top21 and the rest.
Small stakeholders (decent content creators that were told - come there is no censorship, post and earn real money and not upvotes) are also blamed because they wait to sell their steem and letting the price moon. Well, let's just say few things:
Again Social platform is for SOCIALIZING, sharing all kind of content, making fun, commenting, engaging, discussing.
Anyways, I think I have spent too much time on this shit post. All I wanted to say - Don't kill of the authors - steem needs them, and if you can power up. Not sure it will help but it's not a big difference between 0.38 and 0.08.
