LEADERS OF TOMORROW
At that time when Bamu and his friends were making success from their illegal business, many of their old schoolmates had also gained admission into the university, pursuing different courses of study.
At the University of Lagos, Abe was doing very well. He was there studying Law. Abe was very popular on campus because of his intelligence, fight against corruption, and promotion of the rule of law.
Abe was popularly called 'the Law'. He was very nice and simple but would not support bad practices. Usually, he counselled others against bad acts like examination malpractices, rioting, cheating, bribery, forgery and he encouraged all to be themselves in the pursuit of their career.
As a believer in the enthronement of justice and the rule of law, he wanted a new nation where
corruption other Social vices would not thrive again, a nation with integrity and a nation Where there would be hope for the common man.
Fortunately, many of his colleagues also agreed with him. They all lamented the poor state of the nation where graduates had no job to do, businesses are not doing well because of inflation.The poor were getting poorer and the rich getting richer and those in position of authority were lording it over others.
Furthermore, they all regretted the fact that many leaders were fraudulent and the system was not working.The was very corrupt, the customs and other law enforcement agencies were also corrupt to the extent that many of them even‘
collected bribes openly. Unfortunately, the government looked unconcerned.
Most undergraduates wanted a change. This was why on campus, many students daily support the struggle for a better society. They all stood forj ustice.
Abe’s friends, Mope, Tunde and Sina were also all doing well at their various campuses
Although they were not on the same campus, yet they usually communicate to remind one another
of the common cause they were fighting. They
were doing that to encourage one another.
Throughout his stay on campus, Abe maintained high moral principle. After four years, he graduated from the University. Fortunately, he had the best result overall. The news about his outstanding performance thrilled everybody and many paid him visits to congratulate him.
Luckily, that same year, he gained admission into the Law school for further studies. ' That year also, Tunde and Sina graduated alongside with Abe while Mope had two more years to spend at school because she was studying Medicine.Tunde graduated as an Accountant and
Sina as a Guardian Counsellor. Later, Tunde was posted to Zamfara for the
compulsory National Youth Service Corps while Sina was posted to Cross River state.
However, Tunde wanted to be a police officer. He confessed his love for the job because he wanted to help maintain law and order in the society. Luckily, he was posted to serve in the police force.
Similarly, Sina wanted to be a teacher. He usually eulogised his Principal‘s virtues and which had really motivated him into loving the profession. He also was posted to teach at the
Government Federal School from the N.Y.S.C camp.
On completion of their National Youth
service Corps programme, they were both retained and given full employment.
Tunde, after six months training at the police college, was then posted to the police headquarters, Abuja, as an Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Criminal investigation Department while Sina stayed back in Calabar.
