Since my rent is expiring in a few weeks, coupled with my plans on changing locations, I've been house hunting. It's very hard. Very, very hard.
Agents have to be the worst thing that ever happened to house hunting. If you can survive house-hunting with agents, then I believe that you can train a wild lion from infancy to adulthood without flinching. Agents are the weapons formed against house hunters. But I'm not about to share my experiences with them today. Maybe some other time.
That being said, So I dropped by a newly built house on my way back from work yesterday. The exterior was beautiful. It was exactly the first attraction for me.
I had to check it out and also get to know how much it would cost for a one bedroom apartment.
When I got into the compound, I met someone there and he introduced himself as the landlord of the place with a lot of pleasantries. By his accent and mannerism, I knew his was an igboman. I decided to play my card, as a brother by tribe, to my advantage. It worked and we started to hail each other and have small-small talks
He went on to show me two available apartments, which I picked one and asked the price. I expected that at least, it would cost not more than 450k.
Butt the main said that annual rates there costs 900k but first payment which includes caution fee and the rest costs 1.1million.
Me: Nine hundred naira for this apartment? Wow, this is cheap. Very cheap.
Him: Yes, sir. I'm just giving you at that price maka ibu nwanne(because you're my brother). Normally it goes at a flat rate of 1million.
Me: Wow. Daalụ Ńnà. Thanks bro.
Him: One more thing though, our policy is that you must pay for two years. So 1.1million plus 900k totals at 2milluon naira.
Me: Okay, I'm coming. * I could not talk much because the price was already giving me a headache. I had to look for a way to leave.
Him: Where are you going, sir?
Me: I'm coming. I parked my car outside and I just remembered that I did not turn it off.
To be honest, that was the best lie I ever told in my entire life. And i was proud that at least, I created an imaginary car in my mind to plan my escape so swiftly. If I can afford 2million naira, would I have to come with okada(motorcycle)?
Outside the gate, I took off my tokunbo shoes and soon, zoom, zoom.....
Don't think of it, I did not enter any car. I used my leg-gedez Benz
