Seedlings Are Out
It is funny how from year to year you think you are going to cut back on the amount you grow, and then I take out my seeds, oops! I told my husband I would grow less this year since it is a lot of work for just the two of us. But, those seeds I collected all year long, well, they wanted to be planted.
That being said my greenhouse is filling up fast and I haven't even done any of the squashes and cucumbers yet. It is a bit early for that though. I will wait another two weeks before starting them or maybe not. I do tend to get anxious and plant everything early. Do you do the same? I wonder at times if it is just me or if other gardeners like larger plants to put out in the garden beds. I like mine nice and sturdy to withstand the elements. It has worked for me for years now so I doubt I will change my habits too much, just saying.
Trays of Seedlings
The seeds have just sprouted under lights in the house and are immediately brought to the greenhouse to acclimate to the natural light. Also, it is cooler outside than inside which is much better for stronger stem growth. Here is a peek into the interior of my little greenhouse. It is a double level throughout which allows me a great deal of growing room. I have a ceiling fan overhead that circulates the air perfectly to create wind resistance. This is essential for strong healthy plants in my opinion.
Having the different levels allows me the ability to place the larger 4" pots on the upper level without drying out too quickly. Right now I still have space on the bottom shelves and will rotate them out as new seedling trays come outside.
I started a few of my hanging baskets with a variety of Petunia and Verbena mixtures. I save my seed from year to year for most of my plants which saves me a ton of money. Occasionally I will purchase new varieties to try like the hot peppers this year. I showed you all some of those in another posting earlier this month.
This tray has border Zinnias and Sunscape Daisies which happen to be a favorite of mine.
Marjoram
I love growing herbs every year as there is nothing like having fresh herbs to cook with. This is Marjoram which is an annual for us here in N.Y. so I have to start it early every spring. I also grow Rosemary, Parsley, Cilantro, Chamomile, Lavender, Lemon Balm, Basil, Thyme, Sage, and Oregano. Oh, and I can't forget the Mint, Spearmint, Peppermint, and Chocolate Mint too. One thing is for sure, I do have quite a variety of plants to care for and harvest.
Hydroponic Lettuce Update
It is now day 17 for the Hydroponic Lettuce and I am going to start picking off the larger leaves to enjoy a nice salad every day. Yummy!
That will be all for today's #hivegarden update. I wish you a wonderful day and week ahead, thank you for stopping by.
Until next time, this is Sunscape
