Xylaria polymorpha
These fungi are growing in my shade garden right next to my porch on the north side of the house. I had shared other pictures before of the first group I found. Yesterday I found this clump while pulling some weeds.
Apparently, they are often commonly called, "Dead Mans Fingers". They are brownish-black with a hint of blue at the base. I had to look these up to see what the heck they were and was not too surprised at the name which I found very appropriate.
Here is a link to some information on this inedible mushroom called "Xylaria polymorpha"
This image of the clump looks more like a real hand. I had shared it in a previous post but wanted to add it here now knowing what they are called. I can see why they call them dead man fingers, especially with this clump. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
Until next time, this is Sunscape
