Eating cake usually happens during occasions like birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and other events that usually represent happiness. It may have something to do with the sweetness of the cake, which generally makes us happy. Or it can be due to the aesthetic appeal that it shows, adding beauty to the occasion.
Many kids would really appreciate cakes. I guess because during their birthdays, everything seems to be so perfect. They have their friends coming and they have lots of games that they can play. Topping the event would be the blowing of their candles on the cake, which give them the opportunity to make a wish. Then they do the first slice of the cake, with picture taking to document these memories. Everything is joy and happiness, plus a wish, with the presence of the cake.
Then there are wedding. There are lots of ceremonies happening during the event, but one of the highlights is really the wedding cake. Very decorative, gigantic, lavish and expensive… those would usually be the norm for this celebrated occasion. Of course there are still simple ones but likely filled with love. At the top of the cake usually is the figurine of the couple, symbolizing that their union would be filled with sweetness and would bring them at the top of the world. So the cake, again, is a joy in the occasion.
But I also know some people who are not fond with cakes. Usually, it is due to the memories they have with the cake… bad ones. For one, she didn’t really celebrate her birthday when she was young, thus, the dislike of the cake. For the other, it is due to health reasons and has only adopted the liking of other food… and avoiding cake. Then again, maybe if they will encounter new great things in their lives that brought them great happiness, with the cake present, this dislike will change. Not totally of course, but at least opening their minds to the idea of loving cake again.
So what are the things to appreciate when eating the cake? First is the dough part. It would be ideal that it is soft and the texture be consistent. It will really tell if the cake is just baked right or may have been overheated. It may also show the quality of the flour and ingredients used for this cake. Then there is the icing. It covers and clothes the cake to look presentable. It also add flavor to the cake. There is also the flavor of the cake as created by the baker in the liking of the eater. It can be a chocolate cake, fruit cake, carrot cake, mango cake, chiffon and other variation. The flavor would be spread all over the dough or sometimes, there is a really a specific area in the cake where they are placed. Of course, the decorations of the cake make it desirable as well. Sometimes, the cake looks very nice that you would just stare at it and not eat it. Nah, the cake is meant to be eaten so have a picture of it first and then devour it!
So this cake above is a coffee cake. It tastes just find, not too sweet and you can really appreciate the coffee flavor in it. I checked and there are actually special days for a different of cake. For the National Coffee Cake day, it’s on the 7th of April. There are also for lemon chiffon cake, devil’s food cake, and chocolate cake day (Jan 27th, just yesterday!). Of course, the ultimate Cake Day is on November 26 so at least all cakes unite for their special day to produce all the sweetness and happiness for the world to enjoy.
You can definitely eat cake anytime you like. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks in between and even the midnight ones. It will continue to lure you with all its enticing flavors and design. Then again in life, we eat in moderation to avoid health issues. But cake and coffee are also nice to pair (sugar overload!!!). That is so stress eating. Well, if you are stressed, have a break and take a cake!
