It's #beersaturday 馃帀
And it's early in the morning, so I'm going to share a beer I had a couple days ago in the town of Hood River, OR.
The brewery is called pFriem and is pronounced like freem.
After a new years eve and new years day of staying home I was getting a little restless, so I decided to motor on over to the tourist town of Hood River. The town is overrun with tourists in the summer for the wind sports (kite boarding, wind surfing, trying to hold your hat to your head...) but they also get a fair amount of winter tourists with Mt Hood skiing only 30-45 minutes away.
I headed over around noon with the intent to have a beer and then wander downtown with the visiting vacationers.
pFriem is located just off the Columbia River, in an area that has been built up over the last 15 years or so. They opened in 2011 and at the time I was working at a restaurant in Hood River. I remember going when they were newly opened. It was a sparse room with a bar, some tables, a door to the kitchen and lots of brewing equipment. I liked it!
It's quite different now, they've expanded to the left and to the right of that original room.
As I walked up the first room I came to was this awesome patio. It was chilly our but I knew I wanted to sit by the fire and enjoy a brew, and that's exactly what I did :D
I settled on the Hazy IPA, here are the stats:
HAZY IPA - 6.8%, 35 IBU | Clementine, Tropical, Fluffy
It was super tasty and hella fluffy xD
The restaurant was crowded and quite a few folks came in, and promptly left, at the 30+ minute wait for an indoor table. I was joined by some folks at the fire and had a nice conversation with a young mom talking about her one month old kid she had in a stroller.
After finishing my beer I walked around downtown for at least an hour. It was fun pretending to be a tourist for a bit while walking through a town I know well.
