While we say "Action speaks louder than words", we can't ignore the fact that words show our wisdom and reflect who we are.
Communication is a great tool to express yourself and your feelings. If you are able to communicate properly, most of your job is already done. On the contrary, if you are not able to communicate and express yourself, you will not be known as the person you are, your reality will never be showcased to the world.
What is Effective Communication?
Communication is effective when it is done at the right time, with the right people, in the right tone, and with a wise choice of words.
1. Right Time - One cannot just communicate when one wants to. We have to look for the right time and then put our point forward. E.g. If you have to convince your parents for buying you something, you have to wait when they are in a nice mood and when they are financially well equipped to buy you stuff. If they don't have the funds to meet your need, there is no point in talking to them about it right now.
2. Right People - The audience matters, and it matters a lot. Communicating your feelings to the right person is what it requires. You can express yourself well and you talk it out but if not done in front of the right set of people, it's all in vain.
E.g. If you want to share your political views with a set of people who don't know about the politics of your country and about the governance, it is going to be a one-sided communication. You will blurt out what you want to but they won't be able to express anything because they have no clue on what it is. You will not relish that conversation because you won't get any support or disagreement on your thoughts and you won't get to learn anything from that conversation either.
So you have to look at the interest of the people you are sitting with.
3. Right Tone - What you mean to say must be really good and beneficial for the other person. But if your tone is shrewd and not polite, the other person would never like it and won't give a damn what you just said to them. So it's very important that our tone matches our intention and expressions.
E.g. If you want to propose to someone for marriage, you have to be all lovey-dovey and romantic, your tone has to be sweet like honey. or if you want to fight with someone, you have to be bold and go with a strong, authoritative tone so that your voice is effectively heard.
4. Right Words - And lastly, your words. What you say must bring out what you want to say. If you want to go to the east, you must say east. If you say west, your communication fails.
With the right way of communication, you can simplify your life to a great extent, maintain good relationships and keep a good stand for yourself.
