Hello to all members of this community and lovers of creative writing! After spending all morning doing laundry and the rest of the afternoon selecting materials for some accessories I want to make, I thought the best thing to post would be my entry for the contest, although I didn't count on getting hungry when I remembered what the photo was about haha 🤣
I'm not exactly an "expert cook," in fact, I don't even love cooking, haha, but I really enjoy the food I make for myself. I try to use lots of vegetables in my dishes, and as a big fan of vegetarian food, I truly enjoy cooking something I know I'll like.
But if I had to talk about a time when I was more adventurous with recipes, it would be during the pandemic. Since I only worked remotely on weekends, I had the rest of the week free, so after cleaning and before settling down to binge-watch series and movies, I would make some new dessert I'd seen on YouTube. It was very exciting because I did everything on a one-burner electric stove, and I even made everything from donuts to cinnamon rolls.
Unfortunately, I never got around to making recipes that required an oven, like baked potatoes or stuffed bell peppers. Although, I usually use the one-pot method, haha.
Now that I'm in the apartment, I have the option of using a multi-burner gas stove. Even so, I don't feel like cooking desserts or very elaborate recipes, since I don't have the time (aside from that, I feel like the day flies by with all my things), preferring to make enough food to simply reheat it the following days; not to mention, sharing the kitchen with three other people makes cooking a whole "turn-taking" process, which makes me even less inclined to be adventurous with what I prepare, haha.
Before, I had a kind of mental "menu," so I would simply choose what I wanted to eat and prepare it... now, I admit that I mostly rely on improvisation. I see what's in the fridge and my creativity kicks in. That's how I've managed to eat different kinds of soups and make combinations of vegetables that have really surprised me. In that respect, I like the freedom that cooking just for myself gives me.
Even so, I hope that in the future, I can have my own space where I can cook whenever I want. In the meantime, I'll keep saving easy recipes that don't require much work, and if they use few ingredients and are vegetarian, even better, haha.
