A long, long time ago, in a place far, far away, I was an employee for an IT retail company. It was back when dual core processors were a breakthrough technology and CRT monitors were in their last days. Android phones were non-existent and Friendster was the popular media platform instead of Facebook. I started my career as a personnel in the warehouse. We would receive and inspect incoming products, properly arrange them in the stock areas, monitor them, and release them into various retail store branches of the company.
The work during those times was laborious as we moved stuff around all day. Blood, sweat, and tears were shed. Blood from injuries, mostly papercuts and bumps, sweat from lifting heavy stuff and the poor ventilation, and tears, from laughing so hard whenever someone cracks a joke or prank.
And even though it was physically demanding, I was happy. Having co-workers who were kind and fun to hang out with took away the stress. I miss the moments of us taking a break in a nearby store, hanging out while eating some snacks. Who would have thought that those simple times were also the most significant for me.
After a few years in the warehouse, I gained familiarity with the products and was assigned as a store personnel in one of the branches of the company. Selling stuff is a whole new experience for me. I've had my fair share of angry clients and tricky circumstances. It was a different kind of stress as I now interacted with customers. And despite the huge pile of responsibilities that came with the job, it was also a place of friendship. I was once again blessed with co-workers who were kind and affectionate. Despite the troubles that we frequently encountered, we always managed to help each other out and laugh it off at the end of the day.
I wish I could have stayed longer in those moments. But as with all things in life, nothing is permanent and everyone had to eventually go their separate ways. And even though we may be far from each other, the memories that we shared will remain in my heart and I will cherish it forever.
