The Commander continued to discuss strategy with his commander and other military advisers about the situation they took to happen. His grandfather, the Emperor, has been gone for the past three months. It was time for a new emperor to rule the empire and the veteran soldiers recommended to the emperor that he choose from his three kids.
Each soldier was told about one of the fields the baby could be eligible for. They were told about the different responsibilities the baby will be given. Some of the soldiers were glad that the new emperor would be one of their sons and only sons. Despite the happiness, there was a little bitterness among the soldiers, especially, among those who are looking forward to having a new heir to the Galactic Empire in their families.
The Commander didn't feel so happy. His older brothers were manning the front line forces and some of them were already killed in action. He also knew that if his father had lived, then he would have nothing to worry about. The Commander might not have been the eldest son, but he still considered the first choice of his father to be his true father. He remembered how happy his father was when he heard about the news that he has been awarded the military "Commander" position.
The Commander remembered the day when his father held a press conference to announce the great news about his son. His mother's happiness was no longer important because his father was smiling as the news was aired out. It was the most memorable and happiest moments for their family
When their family heard about the new Supreme Commander's death, they thought that they are going to take over the throne. The commander did hear his mother talking to one of her friends that he should get the first position since he was their elder and he was the eldest from his late wife and their children. The commander thought that his mother was only joking, but he decided to stop everything. He knew that the Supreme Commander has a plan for his future and that plan doesn't include him getting the throne.
The commander can't remember when was the last time his father held a speech to give an updated status regarding the war. He didn't know when the war would end anyway. All that the commander knows is that he has to keep his people safe and victorious.
"Commander, I don't think that you should have more men with you since it is only a few months old child, and I don't think that the military would want a very weak and weak-hearted leader after our great victory."
"Would that be your suggestion, nephew?" the commander questioned.
"Yes, uncle, that is my suggestion and I know you are going to agree since I am an old and very experienced soldier."
"You may go now, nephew, unless there is any more suggestion for me to hear?" the commander stated.
"Uncle, the military people in our planet are taking advantage of this situation. I don't think that you can just let them chance to have an unfair power over us. They are doing this because they knew that this opportunity is only temporary and we need to make good use of this situation on our favor."
"Thank you for your suggestion, nephew, if it's not already too late, then I would like to thank you. Since your recommendation is an excellent one, I appreciate your concern and for your military experience and knowledge. I will have to agree with you on that. I appoint you my next Chancellor of the military empire. You are now the captain general of the Empire."
"Thank you, Supreme Commander." The nephew replied.
"The Elite has been doing a great job. The Supreme Commander has already agrees to his placement."
The Elite is the father of the baby. The commander trusted him a lot with his son's care. The commander knew that the Elite would be a good father for the baby. The Elite tried not to show any anger towards the commander who basically appointed him to take care of the boy. He is aware that his son would be a great survivor and his son will guide him to pave a better path.
The Supreme Commander hasn't talked to the Elite since the time of his appointment, but he still values the Elite's opinion that news about the baby might not have been an appropriate news to give out in the first place. The Elite wondered if his father allowed him to be chosen as the next Supreme Commander.
The Elite didn't like the Supreme Commander's appointment. The Elite would have preferred his father to give him the position. The Elite thought that he had more passion for commanding people around him as opposed to the Supreme Commander.
The Elite's only mistake was thinking that his father would have considered him for the position. He has been thinking that he should be the new Supreme Commander and he doesn't fit the personality of an emperor. But the Emperor has removed the doubts that the Commander might bring more trouble to their family. The Elite thought that he could help his father and his loyal counsel recognized that he is not fit for the position. He told them that he doesn't really care about the position, but the Elite just said, "Whatever."
The Elite is not interested in taking the position, but he doesn't want it to be taken by some young kids that were the sons of his loyal commanders. The Emperor made it clear that if there is no suitable candidate, then he might choose the Elite. He already told the Elite that he has already known his plans before his death. The Elite is just a tool to help him out with his plans until the time comes. The Commander is not for that position, but the Elite is trying to change that.
The Elite went to his main friend who is a high ranking member in their military and told him to spread a rumor about the Commander so that the Elite will have a favorable position towards his father.
The Elite's main friend knew that the Elite's intentions are not good, but he has no other choice but to comply with his order. He knew his friend was harmless, but what he ordered him to do will be hard for the Elite to achieve. The Elite left his friend and he went back home. The Elite didn't even tried to make it look like that he is in hurry since he really didn't have anything on his mind.
He thought that his father was very serious in his dead heart when he heard that the Commander was appointed as the Supreme Commander. The Elite believes that his job is to stay out of anything that might be harmful to his father. The Elite believed that the Commander was a danger to his future and the Elite hoped that the Commander's appointment couldn't be tested since they are good brothers of the same father.
The Elite didn't think that the Commander is a threat to him, but he is a great threat to the Empire. The Elite knew that it was the Commander's duty to command, but who are we commanding? The Elite thinks that the Commander will command the Empire to his own benefit and only his personal benefit. He doesn't have any motives to stay there and the Elite can't imagine how his father expecting him to be the Commander. He knows only that his appointment was only a temporary appointment because the sooner the Elite won't even become the Commander. The Elite doesn't know why he has become the Commander in the first place.
