I dislike Sundays very much. The prospect of Monday doesn't really allow me to relax, to clear my thoughts. All I can think about is the long week ahead.

Today I continue the Mad's series.

I've read all of Thomas Harris' Hannibal series, and probably like most people who've seen 'Silence of the Lambs' - I was also hugely impressed by the portrayal of Dr Lecter by the excellent Anthony Hopkins. For years I thought there was no better actor for the role.

I have to admit that Gaspard Ulliel did very well in the role of the young Hannibal, but his acting seemed to me to be over-dramatic and theatrical, and his portrayal not very faithful to the book. But it is really my very personal opinion.

And then I came across the series 'Hannibal' and his role could not have been cast better! Mikklesen is not only the embodiment of the character from the book, but something beyond that. His portrayal of the character is as believable as it is terrifying. I am against romanticising murderers, which is often the case in TV series and films recently. However, it is hard to deny that the character in the series is unusual and compelling. I am not talking about looks. I am talking about the complex character study, deep portrayal, getting to the root of human actions and choices. I value his role for that.

Apart from the fact that the series is decently written, it is artistically absolutely extraordinary.
Spaces, architecture of interiors, colours, clothes, atmosphere - everything is deeply studied and perfectly arranged. The most horrible crimes are "dressed up" in art, displayed like a masterpiece at an exhibition. The viewer has time to appreciate the hard work of the set designers, those working on the costumes, the lighting. Cinematography is perfect, composition is undeniably ideal in every shot.

It is worth watching this series, if only for purely aesthetic reasons. It is not recommended for people with weak nerves.

Today's single portrait, I am very unhappy with the hand, I tried to correct it several times, but it is still broken and anatomically clumsy. I need to work on it. I think I'll sacrifice my work on portraits for the study of anatomy, hands and feet, because it's the most difficult :)

Good Sunday!

Warm greetings to you,
