Where am I now?
Little back story. I work for myself and, aside from a brief stint, I work from home. Thus far that has mean being sat at a large desk (not the one in the picture above sadly) in my "Man Cave", aka the dining room. It's kitted out with cupboards, melamine worktops and I'm surrounded by all manner of geekery... comics, wargames figures and all various sci-fi/fantasy/comic stuff. The room is probably 6ft x 11ft at a guess and it's crammed with stuff.
Why am I moving?
Well, I have 2 kids and right now they share a bedroom. We're in a 2 bedroom house. However, they are reaching the age now where my eldest needs a room to himself, he needs my office. This means I have to pack up all my pretty things and clear out.
It also means I have to take down the half-wall we have between my office and the living room - so I can work and keep an eye on the kids, and put in a full, insulated (for sound proofing, not heat) stud wall. Then move his bed and other things downstairs. All of this has to happen without interrupting my work, which is manic currently!
So this new office?
...is the walk in wardrobe in our bedroom. Walk-in you say, sounds sizeable? No. It's 3ft x 4ft and half of the floor is sloped upwards to make room for the ceiling coming up the stairs - at least it will make a nice foot rest!
I use 2 monitors, one of those has to be rotated so it can fit in. I have a LARGE pc case, with a nice pretty side window and lights, that needs to fit in there somehow. It's going to be interesting.
To recap
6ft x 11ft (66sqft) down to 3ft x 4ft (12sqft) with no interruption.
Oh, and I have to clear all the junk out of the wardrobe first! Well, not quite, that's what I spent today doing so I could get in there and actually measure it. So why are there no pictures? Well, there might be a big more junk to clear yet. I promise some soon though!
So in short, I'm my own boss and I'm demoting myself to working in a a space smaller than a cubicle!!!
Suffice to say, this will be short term and I'll be looking for a way to do things differently in the future.
Wish me luck!
