I always wonder: why do we love the moon? Specifically in contrast to the sun? In terms of transactional values, sun provides us with tonss of benefits. Even, the most beloved, i.e. the moon, has to borrow from sun to be visible. Every poet, every writer, every lover think of the moon as the most beautiful body.
So what can be the reason?
Though, by far, I have not come up with a satisfying answer. I will still keep on trying. One of my theory says that if love were based on utility, the sun would have no rival at all. It wakes the whole world, feeds trees and humans, sharpen fields, warms oceans and make the whole life cycle keep on existing. Every ounce of sun, in some manners, is beneficial. (Heat Waves is an exception here 😐).
Yet we admire the moon, the most.
Maybe because love has never been a transaction. Just like love, moon gives us something which we fail to explain. It just appears when the world has grown tired.
The daylight keeps us alive all day long; the moonlight reminds us that there is a difference between living and alive.
That is why the moon is lucky enough to be compared to the beloved.
A beloved is not measured by its transactional values rather their presence alone is enough. We do not love them because they sustain us. We love them because they soften the darkness within us. They have the power to become the light in the shadowic hours.
Darkness, too, has been misjudged. Without it, the moon would be just another rock rotating in an endless sky. It is the darkness which give moonlight, its meaning.
The photographs are slightly blurry. Nothing, other than moon, is perfectly defined. Strange, isn't it? But, that is how I see my beloved. Because - before thee - everything loses its value.
The sun is respected because it keeps us alive. The moon is loved because it makes us live. It is the same as brain and heart. Both are necessary, but both has its own ways to act.
