Hello one and all,
St. Georges Day here in the UK, well more specifically England, as he is the Patron Saint of England. (Scotland, Wales and Ireland all have their own Saints days). Weather wise not too brilliant with a lot of rain around - but the UK is famous for it, so no great surprise.
A quiet day for racing enthusiants today with just the two meetings taking place - Stratford, and Plumpton.
Oddly, given there only 15 races taking place today, only 10 of the selections made by the 53 tipsters have been made by 2 or more of them, and of those 10, just two horses have been chosen by 3 of the tipsters. 37 (almost 70%) of the selections are in just 6 races. Unfortunately for 7 of the tipsters, they won't be improving their position in the overall table as their picks have already been declared Non-Runners, indeed some may even drop a place or two if those behind them get a result at a good price.
Recap - Saturday, 22nd April, 2023
Storminhome, our only selection yesterday, didn't quite live up to his name, coming home in 3rd place from a field of 8 runners. Was handily placed for much of this 2M 7F tussle, and ultimately made a challenge for and took the lead heading to the second last, urged on from there but was soon headed and lacked any extra effort after the last fence
Tipsters Standings
With the long-time top two going on 4 and 5 run losing streaks West Country has slipped into a 1 win lead, but with just 8 days left in the month it is still a close run thing to be at the top of my unofficial table. West Country is also sliding up the rankings in The Racing Post's official tipping competition table where he is now 10th. The top two in that table remain as The Punt and Expert Eye, seperated by just over £2 total profit, as the competiton enters the final week.
Today's Bets
And so on today's runners for consideration:
Post No Bills, the first of two runners we are are backing in this race. Here we go for a win bet. Four second places in his last 5 outings. The going seems to be in his favour at good to soft, and with a slightly shorter trip the winners circle may be beckoning this time around. Jockey Sean Bowen has ridden 3 winners from 30 rides in the last fortnight, the latest was 4 days ago.
Our second pick in this race is Blackcauseway. I'd normally shy away from backing competing horses in the same race, but for this one there is an extra place on offer and the odds just good enough to yield a small profit if we just get the place. Switched from Hurdles to Fences this season. His last outing was 4th of 8 in heavy ground, so may prefer today's going.
Of our other two selections, The Questioner, returns to the smaller obstacles today on the back of 2 wins and a 3rd from last 4 outings. Disappointingly 4th of 4 last time, starting as favourite, on heavy ground, thus as with Blackcauseway may benefit from the good to soft going.
And finally, Linda Moon, who made her racing debut 36 days ago, finishing 2nd of 17 at 40-1 in a bumper, (a National Hunt race, but without fences). An extra furlong to run in this one, but ground again at Plumpton is good to soft, so could go well again.
So that's where my money is heading today. Let me know if you're following these selections, or going against them with your own, and how you do. There may be a reward coming your way with some Sports Tokens.
Have a great day and good luck with all your enterprises - betting or otherwise.
Regards
Steve
