Summer has officially begun. I have a few photos from the last week or so.
Starting with an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail.
And a Spicebush Swallowtail.
Very similar shape but different coloration on these two butterflys. Both enjoy Dame Rocket though 🙂
Also caught this hummingbird moth. There are sometimes called a clearwing moth. You can see the transparent wing in this shot.
There is a birch tree with several holes along our walk that usually has one occupied by a woodpecker. We saw the parents working hard to feed hatchlings and could here the babies but it was too far up to look into the hole at the babies.
Deer are ever present around here. This lone medium sized whitetail has been hanging around lately. We have also seen a black bear a couple of times but no pictures 🙁
Both Lake Dunmore and nearby Silver Lake have a breeding pair of loons. Babies have hatched since I took this photo but no pictures of the babies yet. This picture isn't quite in focus. You can always tell with loon photos because the perfect shot will capture the red eyes.
I almost made it all the way through a post without including a shot of Lake Dunmore... but failed 😊
