Lovely wild daisy growing near the garden 馃挳馃檪 Always have to start with a pretty flower
It rained pretty heavy last night so all of the plants got a good watering and are still wet this morning making for fun photos. This is a rose plant growing near the corner of the house.
Getting closer to the garden now... I found this lovely blossom.
Its a black raspberry! Growing wild on the edge of the forest. I bought some black raspberries from East Hill Tree Farm this spring and planted them in the garden. The owner said they grow wild here and really thrive. Hopefully my planted ones will look this good in a few years. Until then... I will forage from the wild ones 馃榿
For comparison, here is one of the black raspberries I planted. Doing well but no blooms and a long ways from producing any berries.
With that long intro...on to some garden updates.
Three of the five blueberry plants have blossomed. I love the white bell shaped blooms.
Here is a shot of an entire blueberry plant. They are now about 16" high.
The sunflowers are the stars of the garden 馃槏 The plant in the corner is over two feet tall.
This bed has two rows of sunflowers along the end then cucumbers and squash in the rest of the bed.
This is the healthiest of the squash.
The cucumber plants are smaller right now.
The next bed has tomato, peppers, basil and garlic.
All the tomatoes in the beds are doing well. Some of the extra tomato seedlings we planted in pots are not doing as well. But we kind of selected the healthier ones for the beds so not sure it has anything to do with pot vs bed.
We had some bean seeds left over after starting our bean plant seedlings.
We planted the extra bean seeds directly in the beds.
Several have sprouted. You can still see the split bean seed on this young plant.
For contrast, here is a seedling we transplanted. It is many weeks ahead of the beans just sprouting.
The beans are in this bed with brussel sprouts, radishes, onion, basil and some marigolds
The lemon basil is healthly just a little dirty from the heavy rain.
The marigolds are growing well but since we started them from seed, they still have a ways to go before any blooms.

The final bed has pumpkins, butternut squash, marigolds, more tomatoes, and basil. There is a large pine tree that casts a shadow over part of this bed in the morning.
This large pumpkin plant seems to be doing fine. It does get full sun from noon on.

The last two pictures are small flower beds along the outside of the garden fence.
