Most apple orchards in Vermont close after this weekend. We made one last trip to Champlain Orchard. This is a large orchard in Shoreham, Vermont with views across Lake Champlain to the Adirondacks in New York.
Champlain Orchards has a nice store/farm stand and also u-pick-em apples.
The decor had switched over to mostly pumpkins since our last visit.
Well pumpkins and squash of course.
Its a cute little, well merchandised store.
They also have donuts, turnovers, pies and cider. So I could easily make this trip just for the baked goods.
Luckily, my wife got me out of there and into the orchard 🙂
There were still some apples on the trees. Especially the late harvest varieties. But you had to walk aways down the rows to find them sometimes. Plus many of the earlier varieties were picked clean. They have orchard workers the come in with ladders and strip the trees completely once the u-pick-em crowd slows down. Or when the apples need picked before they go bad.
Unfortunately, alot of apples end up on the ground. The last weekend u-pick-em was 50% off and 75% on apples off the ground. They were pretty low key about collecting the cash. You just go back in the store before you leave and tell them how much of which type you picked.
We were picking for snacking apples so we stuck to picking off the trees. We do sample liberally so we felt like we are already getting a good deal.
Another view of the pretty sky and mountains to end on. Have a great Sunday 🙂
