A burning disc overhead, I toiled ahead
I was tired, I was thirsty, not having seen
Water in the past eight hours
While traversing the great desert I was now stranded in
I managed to lose my caravan
Now I was alone, left to die of thirst
I had no measure of time save the moving sun
No idea of where I was
Except for the footprints in the sand,
Fast replaced by yet more dust
From dust I came, now in dust I was trapped
Dig a grave? How to, with shifting sands
That gracefully destroyed any sandcraft of mine
I walked on, hoping to reach somewhere,
Meet someone who could help,
A glass of water I needed, and I was willing to pay my silver ring
A precious gift.
Desolation sweeps over the land
Despair over my mind
I walk ahead, lonely as I always was
Depressed? Perhaps, yet soothed by the thought
That with death, perhaps, I wouldn't be a loner anymore.
Great dunes dotted the vast sea
Waves of sand rolled across, terrifying reminders
Of the shipwreck I once survived
Perhaps I would survive yet again,
Yet how long would luck last for?
