I flipped through the pages. More maps. More pictures. And more records. Some of them were of local flora. Then I stopped at a page. There was a picture of a vicious looking wolf's head mounted on a pike. It seemed to be placed at the gates of a settlement. Carved on the wolf's snout was "FTW".
The next page read:
"The great wolf lay dead
In front of me
Great fangs in his jaw
That would never bite again.
I stood up, with difficulty
For the fight was vicious
And I was covered in blood
His, and my own
The people of the village
Would be happy no doubt
Now that their foe had been defeated
Yet for how long would I be welcome?
I sheathed my sword
And picked up my staff
Time to seek a new road
One which might end my travels
Not in death but in joy
Yet death is a joy to those
Distressed to the verge of breaking.
I have stood against the test of time
The test of man and the test of travels
Only hardened and cracked but unbroken.
Is not the glass hard? Yet, it shatters
And is forgotten, another victim of time.
~ FTW."
