David vs Goliath: How David improves the world

Introduction

Hello everyone, today another topic of the Hive Learners community: What do you personally do to get a better world? As we all preach it, but change starts by yourself, let's have a look introspective!

Want to first make a small sidenote as I missed some topics lately of the Hive Learners community. Not that I wasn't active on Hive, was just spending time in other communities and in my head an idea is boiling to create some kind of project on Hive. Won't dive too deep into it as it's still just an idea being shaped. Once it's more detailed, I will ofcourse share it here as well! But now, let's go back to the magnificent battle of David vs Goliath!

Who is David?

David is just a person like you and me, average Joe as I think Americans like to call him. Just a 'normal' man, working and taking care for his family with his own struggles. One of the struggles of David is that he would like the world to be a better place. Ofcourse this is something very vague. Does he want it to be ecological, full of friendly people, without war, without famine or just with no poorness? I think we could all agree that all of these aspects are aspects which would be ideals to create a better planet Earth.

David is just a small, average person, he just wants that people are more kind, nothing more. As he knows he can't change everything, so he starts little with his desires but goes 100% for this goal.

How does David wants to achieve his goal?

David lives by the value that change should start inside yourself. If David isn't kind to others, why would others be kind to him? This is some wisdom he learnt along the way in his life. He read it in books, heard it in classes but David is still wondering: if everyone preaches this attitude, why is there still plenty of violence and unkindness? He doesn't know the answer, except that it's because of a variety of different reasons.

He lives with the value in the back of his mind to create a better world so when he meets someone, could be on the street, on the bus or wherever, David will say hello. It's a small thing to just greet someone but David once experienced the impact himself.

A small story

Many years ago, David was biking somewhere on the countryside. He wasn't really happy at that moment, his grandmother was ill, he still had plenty of work to do, couldn't hang out with his best friend and just returned from a funeral. As he was biking, an old man passed by in the opposite direction, greeted David and wished him a good day, all of this while having a peaceful smile. David's heart got filled with joy and warmth although he was experiencing plenty of sad events, just the greeting of that one man, overwon it!

Start of a new beginning

Since that moment, David believes even more that change starts inside yourself. He started to greet everyone as well while smiling. In the beginning it wasn't easy. As David doesn't like to speak to strangers. But he remembered that one old man, who was a stranger as well, and overwon his anxiety to talk to strangers, slowly but steady. Sometimes David saw that others started to smile after David greeted them. Which gave David even more force to keep doing it.

Sometimes people react strange or don't know how to react. Even then it's all fine for David as he remembers what he experienced the first moment a stranger greeted him. He was sad at that time because of a variety of reasons. He had never experienced the fact that someone, who he didn't know, greeted him so how did he had to react? So it's all fine, David understands it and hopes he can spark the same event of warmth and joy in someone else's heart.
