Good morning, Splinterlands fam! Great to be back here again. I’m @zusi78, and I’m thrilled to participate in the SPL contest titled “David versus Goliath.”
On paper, I stand no chance against my opponent. He is the Goliath, and I am David.
But strategy, synergy, and tactics secured the win for me. Let’s break it down!
Splinterlands is no walk in the park,but that's what amps up the excitement.A winning strategy weighs stats, abilities, rulesets, mana caps, and beyond. That's why you must factor them all into your deck building.Toss in strong cards to boost your setups, and push hard to rack up as many victories as possible! 🔥
Heavy metal:You can only summon armoured units.
Outsider:You can only summon one wild unit.
Now you see me:All units have camouflage,(cannot be directly targeted, unless in first position).
SUMMONERS -:
| SUMMONERS | ||
|---|---|---|
| S/N | Me | Opponent |
| 1 | CRYPTIC Lv.2 | ELOWEN SYLPHIE Lv.4 |
MONSTERS -:
| MONSTERS | ||
|---|---|---|
| Position | Me | Opponent |
| 1 | Thanalorian Scion Lv.3 | Skyfire Leopard Lv.3 |
| 2 | Abyssal Elemental Lv.3 | Earthworth Sentinel Lv.8 |
| 3 | Barashkukor Lv.2 | Virid Veromancer Lv.10 |
| 4 | Warborn Shaman Lv.4 | Fenmoor Wood Troll Lv.10 |
| 5 | Nil | Ironwing Juggernaut Lv.9 |
| 6 | Nil | Giant Alpine Skink Lv.5 |
This was what played out. My Summoner Cryptic grants two of my units with the Poison + Expose ability during the activation period.Also my opponent summoner Elowen Sylphie, grants two of his units with Resurgence + Trample as well. I had a monster with resurgence ability, while he has a monster with the poison ability. So I would say it was a 8-vs-5 matchup,with my opponent having four fully max cards,and his summoner Elowen Sylphie fully max as well.
Ambush Round.In this round I started the attack,my unit warborn shaman with its ambush ability drawing the first blood on my opponent's tank.
Round 1, Scene 3.His tank was seriously hit and poisoned to death and taken out at the same time.
Tank killed.
Tank returned because of resurgence.
Tank applying +1 damage to all units; allies and foes on the battlefield.Only those with protection were not affected.This is due to resurgence.
Round 2, Scene 3,his tank was finally taken out,after suffering more attack and poison.Likewise, my tank was also poisoned and taken out.It was now 5 versus 3.
Round 2,Scene 5, my opponent unit now in the tank position was taken out instantly by my damage dealer, Barashkukor with its +5 magic attack.
Round 2, Scene 7.It was now a 4 vesus 3 situation.Now,my opponent still have a monster with resurgence ability,who is now occupying the tank position, likewise me I have a monster with the resurgence ability as well.It means they would come back after they are taken out.So the screenshot of those scenarios would be too much. I would just fast forward.
Round 5,Scene 2.I already had the upper hand. The poison I distributed was simply too much for my opponent to handle. It became a war of attrition as my poison steadily ate away at my opponent’s health at an alarming rate, with no solution in sight. Eventually, I won the battle.
My final thoughts 💬
The poison damage was like a weapon of attrition.
Instead of killing the opponent units instantly, the poison deals damage over time (DoT), chipping away at their health turn after turn.My opponent had no cure, removal, or answer to stop the poison.
So the fight turned into a slow, inevitable drain — they were losing health steadily while I maintained control,even with more monsters.
It was like a war where one side keeps bombing supply lines and slowly starves the enemy rather than charging in for a quick knockout.I would say this was a classic control strategy — by setting up persistent damage (poison) that the opponent can’t easily deal with, then sit back and watch their health disappear.
Note:Poisoned units lose 2 health at the beginning of each round. It ignores armor, shield, and void, making it a strong attrition tool.
