I just finished a 5.19km running that lasted about 0hh:25mm:29.0ss !
I managed to get up in time to go to Stevenage parkrun. This involves cycling to my local station and then uphill to the course at the other end. As I left the house it was drizzling a little, but that soon stopped. It was fairly quiet when I go there, but eventually the masses turned up. I am constantly amazed at how many people show up every week at these events and the volunteers do a great job. I expect some events have overcrowding issues as hundreds of people jostle for position on narrow paths, especially at the start before they get spread out.
There were various groups there including a local running club, some people running for an MS charity and a group supporting the local Liberal Democrat candidate. I do not think she was actually running.
The course is mostly on tarmac paths with a stretch through the trees that can get muddy. A lot of people took the path instead, but that does not make much difference to the distance. I risked the mud. There were a few places with lots of wet leaves and I was a little wary of slipping, but I did not see anyone go down. It goes up and down a bit, but there are no significant hills until you have to run up on the grass to the finish.
I could hear the kilometre updates on my phone and I seemed to be on target for under 25 minutes. My app thinks the course is a little longer than 5km, but I thought I might still achieve my goal. I just got the email with my official time and I was nine seconds over! It is still a personal best, so I cannot complain too much and I am still improving. Maybe my new intervals routine is paying off. I did get an age rating of just over 60% for the first time.
I made my usual dash to the station, but managed to just miss my train even though it is downhill all the way. I had to wait a half hour for another. I sat outside as it was not too cold. Riding home from the station felt like hard work, but then my legs have done a lot. After a shower and a coffee I feel okay.
Who else on Steem does #parkrun? I know @bingbabe does, but she never posts. She should use
@exhaust or
@actifit.
