Description from Strava:
We have had record-breaking temperatures in the UK this week so we are feeling a bit frazzled. It does not make for good sleep and my hayfever is playing up. I have been in our pool, but that is like a warm bath now.
It is due to be slightly cooler today and better tomorrow, but it was already warm as I jogged up to the start. There were loads of first-timers again with people from Australia and South Africa. I set off with the objective of just running all the way. There is little point in trying too hard in these conditions.
The staff from the campsite were putting down more bark chippings on the path we run on. That may make it wear better, but it is not ideal for running on as you tend to sink into it. We had to dodge around their tractor.
I just tried to keep going and not worry about what others were doing. There was one older guy with a water bladder on his back so I could hear the water sloshing as he came past me, but then he kept stopping to take a drink. I had a good chat with him afterwards over coffee.
I was a minute slower than my recent good time, but then that is what I was running recently anyway, so it was not bad for a hot day. As I started my last lap a guy was finishing, so he was really quick despite the heat! I really needed a drink in the shade to recover.
Next week I will be pace running with a target I can manage easily, so it should be less hard work. That will clock me up another volunteer session. I have 63 of those so far. The guy who started this run is almost at 250!
I will be in the pool again today. I enjoy swimming a few lengths. I must be getting stronger as I managed 11 chin-ups this morning.
Run free and stay cool.
