There is a popular Hindi couplet which were taught to in our childhood days.
ऐसी बानी बोलिए, मन का आपा खोय।
औरन को सीतल करै, आपहुं सीतल होय।।
This if translated in English means ;
Speak such words that your mind loses its temper. Cools others and you yourself become cool.
This famous couplet of Saint Kabirdas Ji gives the message of speaking sweetly and without ego, which provides peace and happiness to both the listener and the speaker. But these days, I noticed that people loses the art of soft speaking and always use provoking words that could hurt the listeners. In other words the basic art human communication is losing its base in the society.
A person should always speak sweet and humble words that completely eliminate their own ego. Such sweet words not only bring comfort to others but also bring immense peace and joy to the speaker. Speaking politely is the basic requirement of communication. I have seen cases when speaking softly ended many age old difference. The reason I came up with couplet is to remind people about the way we losing the charm of talking. These days, people are more prone to abusive and harsh words. Call it the influnce of media or social media or other entertainment sources that people have adapted these languages in their life.
Speaking with kindness is the most beautiful form of self-expression.
Earlier, there was always a point of respect for each other whenever two or more person talk, but now there is no point of respect. People were always be aeen in rush and find no time to do a formal talk. There are many instances, when people open their mouth only to hurt others sentiments. This becomes a common jorms among all the individuals. I belive the over exposure to social media is primarily responsible for the sudden shift of human talking. Social platforms often encourage heated opinions or passive-aggressive remarks, overshadowing the slower, more deliberate effort required for thoughtful, kind discourse between two or more individuals. This results in people getting offended over a normal talk.
Let your words be as cool as the breeze and as pure as your soul.
Offending others is incredibly easy because communication relies on interpretation, not just intent, making it highly susceptible to mismatches in tone, cultural background, and personal insecurities. People.mindset and psychology also plays an important role. Individuals struggling with low self-esteem or unhealed past trauma often view innocent comments through a lens of rejection, making them hypersensitive. Sant Kabir's timeless advice to "speak words that are free of ego and bring peace to both the speaker and listener" feels harder to practice today. We are living in a highly competitive environments often encourage aggressive self-promotion rather than humility. I belive human being should relaize the importance of sweet talk and get back to the basic of formal talking. These days when people were living fast paced life a sweet words or two may prove to be a boon. Speaking with ego creates internal turmoil, whereas polite communication reduces your own stress. It shpuld be noted that, kindness and tact remain the most effective ways to de escalate toxic situations and build meaningful relationships.
So next time when you get into any concersation, irrespective of the fact, with whom you are doing it, do rememeber to be mindful.
In good faith - Peace!!
