The atmosphere around my house has again lit up. There are rush, there are celebration and there are high loud speakers making noises. It is coming from all corner. Indian never fell sort of celebration and festival. This time around it is in form of Saraswati Puja. And the celebration has just getting bigger and bigger.
One of the many pandals (tents) came up around our house. This is not any kind of religious post, but trying to give an insight about the India's lifestyle. Especially when you are living in a small town. Getting into the crazy electrifying atmosphere of celebration is the ultimate choice and you cannot run away with it. Saraswati Puja is one of the most revered festival among the students or artist. Devotees worship Goddess Saraswati to seek blessings for knowledge and intellect, often placing books and musical instruments before her idol. The celebration began by constructing a pandal and then placing idol to worship. The festival began on Basant Panchami and it is up to the organizer to make it a 3 days celebration or only for a day. But basically the worship starts on the fateful days of Basant Panchami.
Basant Panchami (falling on January 23, 2026) marks the arrival of spring in India and is dedicated to Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, arts, and wisdom
The color Yellow dominates the day with people wearing yellow, making dishes like yellow rice, and offering yellow flowers. Even at many location the Goddess too were in Yellow.
Goddess Saraswati always carries Veena - the musical instrument. The instrument represents the harmony of life, with its perfectly tuned strings signifying that knowledge brings balance, creativity, and inner joy.
I remember this used to be one of our favorite festival in the childhood. We used to construct a mini tent in our colony and organize movie night on VCR. We used to celebrate the festival for a single day. Goddess Saraswati is revered as the source of intellect, wisdom, and creative energy, so it remain one of the most sought celebration among the local youth. They take upon themselves to celebrate the festival through own fun or through collection from the locality. There is no forceful contribution and an individual can donate money as per their wish. In my locality there are many pandal came up this year, and every one is making most of the times. Getting over the festival mood in India is pretty tough. But in case you are living in big metropolitan cities of India, then you going to miss the atmosphere. This is one such times when people socialize and interact a lot, apart from taking selfies and posting on social media. These days the celebration are confined to only the small towns and they know how to make it big. Today is the last day, and the evening and night is going to be more chaotic with immersion procession followed by DJ and youth crazy dance moves.
In good faith - Peace!!
