Murali Coffee Shop - Authentic South Indian filter coffee.
An early morning walk turns quite exciting when I discover a popular hidden spot for coffee lover. Compltelly unknown about its popularity, I went out for a casual strolling on the streets of Srirangam city only to find a crowd gather at one corner of the road.
It was quite an unusual sight on the street famous for lord Vishnu. The shop was crowded while all other shops were closed. There were number of people arriving on their vehicle and queueing up at the shop. It intrigued me to know about the place. I find it unusual. As when you are at a religious place then most of the crowd were find at the temple entrance. But here the crowd were at a small shop as early as 4.30 AM.
Seeing so many people gather led me to get near to the spot to take the vibes or to discover the spot. The problem at this place is that most of the people were Tamil speaking and they hardly understand Hindi. The other language people were known is English. So I was confident of dealing with them. But there is a challenge too as not many understand English too.
It does bot let me figure out the crowd at the shop. I was bit surprise to know that the crowd gather there for coffee. People in south India are coffee lover and I can feel vibes in the small shop on the street. The shop is too small, there were few attendant inside busy in boiling the milk inside the shop while a person is serving hot coffee on steel utensil. There was another guy who was serving to the people. I wanted to click the picture, but clicking picture of unknown people might put me at risk or hurt their sentiments. I do bot wanted to create a morning ruckus at the shop I ordered a cup of coffee and was served in steel glass and a steel tumbler / saucer. It costs me only Rs.20/-
What I noticed is their unique method of selling the coffee. The attendant who was serving the coffee is putting hot liquid coffee in the cup then add little sugar and then pour hot milk on the small glass and the saucer. Then it was served to the customer. The coffee is supposed to be shaked by the consumer before consuming. Using the two utensil they were shaked by mixing properly before consuming.
South India states including regions like Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu features high altitudes, rich soil, and misty mornings that produce a large percentage of India's coffee. Local availability made coffee a household staple early on. For many households, the morning cup is an aromatic and comforting ritual that marks the start of the day. Seeing the crowd so early made me belive its not only a hot beverages but an essence for life for the people residing in southern India. I consumed my hot cup of coffee and it was refreshing.
After doing some extensive enquiry from local people, i understood that, It opens exceptionally early 4:00 AM to 10:00 AM and reopens from 2:00 PM to 7:30 PM. They use fresh cow's milk (no milk powders) to give it a rich, frothy, and slightly smoky flavor. It is a tiny, heritage, "hole-in-the-wall" establishment, but anyone will easily spot it by the massive crowd standing outside. The way I discover the little heritage spot from nowhere.
In good faith - Peace!!
