I want to share my daily activities working as an elevator engineer and this will be the first of its series as I will be sharing more of my daily routines to come.
First, I work as an elevator technician but I am also studying mechatronics engineering in the University; mechatronics is the combination of electrical, computer and mechanical engineering, it can also be referred as robotics engineering.
The picture above shows my arrival at a site in Victoria Island, Lagos Nigeria.
So the task for today was to perform routine maintenance on the lift, and some faulty components were changed. I would be mentioning few maintenance routines that are done on an elevator

Note: The list above is not all the maintenance routine that are done on a lift but the few I would mention for now
When we (team of elevator technicians) arrive to a site, we usually power on the lift at the controller room if the elevator is not powered on.
Some lifts do not have controller rooms because the motor ( a machine that drives the elevator up and down) is placed in the shaft ( the space or passage which allows the elevator to move to different floors) and the controller panel will be placed at the last/top floor of the building while some have their controller and motor kept in a separate room.
So in this case, the lift we were working on had its controller on the roof and above is a picture showing the ladder that takes us to the roof were the controller is placed.

After switching the elevator on we found there was an issue with the phase, which we detected from the phase relay. The problem was solved by swapping the phases.

The below picture shows the door tracks filled with sand. The sand in the tracks is what is being removed to prevent delays when the door tries to open or close when in use.
The below picture shows the top of the elevator which contains the door module, door motor, oil pots, inspection button.
This picture below shows the shaft which was earlier explained. The white container is what is referred as the oil pot.

So that's all I will be saying for now, I will be sharing tomorrow's Activities. I hope you all got to understand some of the maintenance routine elevator technicians do. I believe most people haven't seen the shaft of an elevator or know it's system of operation that's why I decided to share this with the community.
