Assertiveness and self-acceptance
The first important thing anyone can do is to accept themselves and others unconditionally. You can decide to accept yourself just as you are without changing anything or you can decide to learn certain skills to grow and develop yourself further.

Children should know that they have the right to say no to requests they don't feel good about and they should learn to take responsibility for their choices. Assertiveness should always include self respect and respect for others.

Things we can do to teach this to our children and ourselves.
*Use positive statements when talking to your child like we all make mistakes, you tried and that is all that matters.

  • We must celebrate every little victory discuss it with your child.
  • Determine when your child needs that extra boost and give it to him/her.
  • Leave a letter on his/her pillow letting them know they are special.
  • Talk about their positive characteristics and why it is positive.
  • Remind them of any positive feedback they received from someone else in the past.
  • Ask them for their opinion.
  • Let your children experience your attitude telling them I love you no matter who you are.
  • Let them overhear you telling someone else something good about them.
  • You must hold your child and give them hugs and play with them, This is much better than any material thing you can give them and it will foster a better bond between you.
